Especially when shooting handheld at night under crappy lights, iso 1600, 1/125 and f2.8 !! Poor old d70 had a bit of trouble, but I spose it isn't too bad :) LOL Man that d700 is looking good - and I only have to add on one zero ;)

No way Jose - with the grain in this excellent pic you have illustrated exactly how a rodeo at night should be shot :)

Love it Rel - great the way it is. But don't let that get in the way of getting a new camera anyway.....

Excellent!

There's a great feel to this shot. The b&w conversion; the grain, the movement of the rope; the framing of the rider and calf in front of the crowd, all watching the action intently. Even the texture of the dirt surface in the foreground.

Man, that camera really sucks! :D

Crappy camera. Fantastic operator. This shot is great, it has a real timeless feel to it.
Well done.

Great shot, you dont need a new camera cause if this is meant to illustrate your reasoning, then it means i should get a D70!!! Great work.

Do have a look at that D700, I picked one up a few days ago and just thought, WOW. Lots of nice touches to it.

Wow - thanks everyone - I wasn't expecting such a positive response - I'm getting used to seeing such fantastic shots with the new cameras pushed to high iso with no noise or grain that I thought the general consensus would be mine sucked LOL. Sooner or later I will get a new body - camera that is (sorry Damo LOL), but the d70 doesn't do too bad for an old girl :)
Thanks again - you've made an old girls day :) :) :)

Man that d700 is looking good - and I only have to add on one zero ;)

Liquid paper will get you a D700 for a lot less money.

And based on this photo, you don't need one anyway.
Absolutely brilliant. Too much is made here of "noise free" pix. Noise can be (and has here!) used to great advantage

POTW material I think.

Love going to the rodeo Rel and this is a great shot that is in keeping with the whole gritty feel. Great camera angle that also adds visual impact. You'll have to come up to the Mareeba rodeo next year(mid July) :) Oh yeah...just do it! Get the D700 you'd do wonders with it
cheers

I have to say the noise in this photo really works! In fact if there was a noise-free one and this shot, I'd pick this one :)

Proof that Black & White is not dead - and who cares about the grain!

Nicely captured, shutter speed is bang on (the movement in the lassoo is spot on while the rest of the movement is frozen) and composition gives plenty of interest.

If anything, I'd try and burn the white hats a little so they don't stand out quite so much. Otherwise, I can't think of anything else you'd want to do to this image. Well done!

A very effective result from a tried-and-true workhorse. Its good to see others here still using their D70, and reminding everybody that good results aren't exclusive to brand new cameras.

I'm looking forward to upgrading one day, but until I can justify the expense I'll stick with my trusty D70 and work on the more important aspects of photography: practising my eye in composition, colour and creativity.

I would have to agree with everyone here Rel, Ilike this shot.
It may be useful to get some of your subjects without the need for flash though.
Save their eyes a little.

Thanks again all :)

Colin - there was no flash in this shot - I was just using the available light and banking on the lens doing a good job ;) LOL
