Hi there dslrusers inspired by Carlos and his outstanding contribution in creative pose, lets plan another day out to shoot! Studio Lighting Option (Black Rock): we have enough gear amongst us to set up a studio, and if numbers are about 12, I have access to studio areas, two garages and an indoor space. We could set up a bright color seamless paper, a black backdrop, and a few "brick wall" sets. If we get models in, we will need an IT expert to collect images to cut a CD for the volunteer models. 1pm to 5pm+ then can catch up for a drink/coffee/bite. Costs: Minimal, perhaps to cover coffee/snack, modeling lamps, makeup/stylist if booked, $10-$20 each... look forward to your feedback!

Hehe. When one of my Saturday students asked me a couple of weeks ago if I knew we had a class on grand final, my response was "What date is that?". Life does go on despite some peoples' fixation with Aussie Rules football, but I think attendance on the 27th would probably be poor. Is the 28th that bad a choice?

No chance in hell I'll be even close to sober on the 28th, so unfortunately it's time to count me out. I'll hopefully catch up with the vic members some other time. Have fun everyone!

For those that don't really care about the game the city is really empty (read ghost town) while the GF is on. we could have a meet at the G for fan type photos before the game then walk into the CBD for empty city shots.
Just a thought!

Umm...are newbies who are still learning how to turn their cameras on allowed to come? I'm rather shy but I think it would be great to mix with some experienced folk to help my learning curve

Kitchenwench, although I can't come along this time, I xan assure you that anyone who has come along to any of the earlier meet ups has been welcomed, and treated as equals. The best thing is that you mix with like minded people, and if you are in doubt about anything photographic, there will be some one there, or several, who will always try and assist you. Go along and enjoy the day.

anyone coming please PM me so I can send details. ALso, be great if we can get a couple of additional studio lights.
we can set up one area with white or grey paper backround, another area with a black fabric background, and if the weather is ok, we can shoot a little outdoors.
I havent heard much in the way of subjects to sit for us, so I can put the word out.

Hi Guys and Gals, First Post, stumbled on this forum while searching for places to take photos in Melbourne. Is it ok for me to come along also to this meet? I'm quite the amateur and was thinking about stepping up to buying a couple of lights to practice on. It would be good to see how things work in a controlled lighting environment and to also learn from people who have experience with them. Lam

Yes, but we also need to mindful of the personal security of the individuals here. Where events are being held in the personal homes of members - or perhaps their business addresses - it is prudent to not publish, in a publicly accessible forum, these details. Bruce's method of dealing with this information is eminently sensible.

you shouldnt need to buy anything, if your camera has a hotshoe, the radio triggers will slide right on, alternatively we may use an adapter to connect to PC synch lead.

Here are a few photos i took, I did a lot more watching than taking. Testing the lights at the start. Steve taking a shot at one of the girls One of my fave shots of Steve Steve as a tradie Setting up an interesting shot, with Steve again... Dave posing for me while explaining light coming from a soft box. I got a lot more of Steve and i swear i don't have a crush on him... well not much These photos were straight outta the camera and only resized with Olympus Master

Might help to explain one of the strange set ups pictured here! What a lot of fun, but i think I will stick to working behind the camera for the next little while.
