Congratulations Michael - International Debut

Postby Slider on Wed Sep 10, 2008 7:11 am

Our very own Finch (Michael Snedic) has been published in the world's largest selling wildlife/nature magazine.

BBC Wildlife has featured Michael's article on the Albert's Lyrebird in the current issue, Sep - 08 (I believe Michael is one of only 5 people to photograph this bird with it's magnificent display).

With a distribution of 500,000 in 87 countries this is certainly a feather in his cap 8)

A fantastic effort with an immense amount of time and work to get there. Seven weeks in a hide and countless hours of hard work have paid off.

Congratulations Michael. Top stuff :D
Cheers

Thanks-a-million guys!

I've been slogging away at my nature photography for 11+ years now and it really is rewarding to get publishings like BBC Wildlife come my way.

So much wildlife, so little time :D

Cheers

Michael

Matt: If I did this just for money, I would have given up 100 times before. Luckily I've been able to keep paying the bills by doing other part-time work but nowadays my income from photography is much better. I love a challenge and thrive on the outdoors, so that also makes it more rewarding.

Cheers

Thanks again, guys

I've had a few questions in relation to which Albert's lyrebird "photo" was used in the BBC article. There were actually 5 different ones used and one of those is in my bird's gallery below:

Were you lucy enough to have him display in the same area regularly or was it move your hide about and pray?
I have seen several fellows (not alberts though)display when without a camera and every time the camera is there I make to much noise and spook him. Always the way isn't it
Great shot obviously and congrats on publication.

Hi Colin

With a friend (who is a local guide at Lamington National Park), we observed one specific male and watched where he displayed. There was a choice of many different sites but chose one and hoped for the best. Very, very long, laborious days sitting in a cold, cramped hide. Worth it in the end, though.

Cheers
