E-bay scams.

I would be interested to hear if other forum members have had problems bidding for items on ebay.

I placed a bid for a Nikon 18-70 mm lens on 3 Oct, the auction was to end 11 Oct at 4.00:38.51 i.e. 4.40 AM. At 12.30 AM Monday I was the highest bidder.($290)

I got on line at 3.00 AM and found the auction had been closed early and I had been out- bidded.( I assume from dummy bids from the seller)

When I questioned the seller about closing early, he admitted that the item was being sold too cheaply and he had withdrawn it!!

Ebay seem to think this is OK!!!

Rodger,

eBay do have some "funny" policies; I've heard quite a few stories.

That they support this sort of behaviour isn't really the issue though. It's the trader who's making this poor decision, and that's where the real problem lies.

The lesson to be learned from this experience is that this is a trader to be wary of.

Over the next week or so I'll be putting up a new Traders section, where you can detail this sort of poor experience. While I have no desire for it to become a bitch session, I think that we're all interested in others' experiences with particluar traders, especially the good, and occasionally, the really bad.

It also happens the other way to - I have had people win bids on items that I have had for sale never to hear from them again! There are a lot of good traders out there in Ebay land but it always pays to look at their feedback.

Success on ebay...

Postby Geoff on Mon Oct 11, 2004 6:40 pm

I recently bought a 512mb ultra II on ebay (arrived today and I have no camera to put it in..:( ), from the states and I paid all up (including shipping) AUD$95..it took 4 days to arrive.. As yet, I've never had a problem with buying on ebay.
Cheers,

Geoff.

Yes... the only thing which annoys me is when you find a real good bargian... set your alarm clock for 10 minutes before the close and the bugger withdraws it from sale cause he is not happy with the price he will get!!!

Nearly picked up a second hand 50mm 1.4 for less than 300AUD and it was in Australia!!!

I complained to ebay about this behaviour because there was a dude selling Sigma 100mm macro's and he would take them off 5 minutes before they were supposed to end and then relist them again. They said that they will be soon changing their policy so you would not be able to remove items with in 3 (or was it 5) hours of it finishing. Bring that on I say. Other than that I have bought way too much from ebay. I just won an Gitzo G322 tripod and G1376 ball head which I don't need because last week I bought a Manfrotto 055ProB tripod. :?
