You did not mention, what basics you have. Nikon Editor, which is part of Nikon View will do this. Image size in General adjustments, then save as, and you will be given a choice of various compression levels.

I currently have a kodak dx7590. I intended to have d70 in the next few weeks, but have run into financial issue.

I will be buying a d70 mid year now, but am remaining active in the forum, as it is a great collective source of knowledge, inspiration and learning.

The software I have is the basic XP stuff (MS photoeditor) and the kodak program I got with the camera (kodak digital photoeditor). Both are very basic. A little embarrasing I know, but am just starting our really.

I will figure it out on my own, but any tips are appreciated.

MS PhotoEditor - part of Office XP? I cannot remember if this allows a choice of compression levels when saving. No knowledge of the Kodak program.

You could always download a copy of The Gimp for Windows. Best value of all (free) and is a feature rich photo editor. http://www.gimp.org/

Try downloading the Windows XP Image Resizer Power Toy. It will allow you to just right click on files in explorer and resize them for the web...

If you want a really simple freeware program (i.e no layers etc), maybe have a look at http://www.photofiltre.com/.

Yes to the first part.

If you can access the memory card through Explorer, you will be fine. The Gimp should be to browse to your memory card, although I would probably not do this. Personally, I would transfer files as you always have, either explorer or the Kodak program, then open in Gimp. BTW, smart move to stick with the forum. Prior to my D70 purchase I spent about 6 weeks hanging out in the forums (DPR while it was still a reasonably pleasant place to hang out) researching prior to my purchase and then waiting for it to arrive. It certainly paid off. When the camera arrived, I was comfortable with it right away.
In the meantime your Kodak, which seems to be quite a decent camera (yep, I quickly checked it out), should serve you well.

Here you've asked a completely different question to the subject of the thread and also got some really good answers. Trouble is if someone goes looking for that info later how confusing is it when the thread is called "Who is Poon". A better idea when you have a different question to ask is to start a new thread to make things easier down the track. Of course you're not alone here as the double or triple barrelled question can probably be found in posts by pretty much all of us. Just try to keep the threads "on topic" and things are better for all.

However, it is an excellent point, especially as we're well over a "small" amount of users accessing the forum... the need for staying on-topic to keep it clean will probably be the reason I make posts in the near future... Lol.

If you're going to ask a completely different question AND there hasn't been a recent (and by recent I mean checking the archives but not going back more than 5 pages... remember, you can always "search") thread started on the question you're asking, then please ask it in a different post...

It's not really a debate, it's more of a point...

You can go off topic to a certain extent, but by asking a completely different question and derailing the point of the thread in its existence, that is not something I would recommend.
