Simple Q about Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 Nikon mount

Postby azza_25 on Wed Oct 08, 2008 12:30 am

Hey guys,

There has been lots of yays and nays in response to this Q:

Can the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 lens take a filter? - If so does the edge of the filter affect the picture's edge due to its wideness?

Wanted to know because i got one - and it has a thread for a possible filter, but methinks there would be bugger all clearance to begin with if there is any from the glass.

So wanting to know from anyone who owns this awesome, awesome lens ;)

Yes it takes filters.
Yes & No that it create vignetting on edges with filters.

Yes - I do have this lens
Yes - I do love it
Yes - it works with full frame across 15-16mm, barely at 13-14, and interestingly at 11-13mm...
No - it does not perform well on FX.

I'm a maniac and I don't use filters except CPL when needed. Although from my tests, the lens do produce vignetting at edges when you open up to f2.8, stopped down to f/4 or more, the thing is gone. This is not a big problem for me, I never use f2.8 when I have to use a PCL.
Have no issue with slim type UV filters from my tests. Vignetting with thick ones at f/2.8.
