Love it Cameron, it seemed at one stage everyone was posting duck pics, much better with torch pics The red background really suits. PS I wouldn't mind grabbing the first and second if I may?

In the first, your focus point appears to be at the leading edge of the text. Because of the proximity of the subject, you don't have a lot of DoF with which to play, and the text drifts OOF as we move along the body of the torch. With a focal point a little further along the text, this wouldn't be as noticeable.

There are a couple of other ways that this, if you see it as an issue, may potentially be addressed. If the torch was placed at a lesser angle away from the camera (more parallel to the focal plane) then the issue diminishes.

Using a smaller aperture. The problem with a smaller aperture is that while you may increase the DoF, but if you move out of the lens's sweet spot, your overall acuity may suffer.

For the third and fourth images, a little bit of extra light, from the back (TLHC in these images) may have been useful, to help with some visual separation of the different picture elements.

Gary, I was very shocked when I noticed the lack of DOF at f/13 with the Sigma, but then again at 180mm DOF is not helped, I should probably reshoot, shifting the focal point (this is where studio strobes or an extra SB-800 would help - AF assist cant assist around that 180mm lens). I wanted the slanted effect, but you are right the drift OOF is too great. I totally agree with using too small an aperture and moving out of the sweet spot (on this lens f/).

I actually dont like #3 and 4 that much, the Romisen and the Defender are too close together as well as the need for more light.

At least one thing has been learned, red backdrop is better than black.

Unless the main subject of interest is the blue torch, I would suggest to change the colour to black.

I would also remove the strap or position it better...
