Mid Month Madness #2

Postby Mr Darcy on Wed Oct 08, 2008 9:46 am

This is a blatant copy of Big Red's Weekend Challenges.
I felt the need for an additional one as it is often difficult to fit the time in for either photographing or posting.

The aim is to pick 4 themes and everyone who wants to have a go at them can post up their pics in the image section by midnight after the closing time and put a link from their thread into this thread.
You don't have to attempt all themes. Just the ones you can manage.

Any DSLRusers Member who cares to can then vote for their favourite on the four themes and post up in this thread with any comments if they care to make them. You don't have to enter to vote.

The Themes are:
Theme 1: …Reflections
Theme 2: …Emotion
Theme 3: …Kitchen Utensil
Theme 4: …Animal

Voting lasts for 48 hours then I will tally up the votes and post up here.
If you win ... you get nothing but praise.
If you cheat ... you get nothing but Karma.
You cannot vote for your own pics.

Rules:
Pic must be taken in the Challenge Period by the entrant.
Any PP is allowed as the voters will say what is too much
Normal posting rules apply. In particular, Pic 800 on longest side.

You may take and post photos at any time from now till closing

Pics to be entered by midnight Wednesday 15-Oct-2008
Voting to be from midnight Wednesday 15-Oct-2008 to midnight Friday 17-Oct-2008
Late entries will be accepted, but only until the first vote is cast.

Don't forget ... its just for fun so even if you didn't get a fantastic pic for a theme ... post it up anyway

As an extra challenge, you may try to get all four themes in a single photo. If you attempt this, post it in a separate thread. This will allow you to potentially get double votes.

I must admit, after complaints last time, both about both mine and Big Red's, I got PJS to vet them. She vetoed two. I agreed to one and put it back in the pool for another time

Theme 1: …Reflections
PaulMac. Though I could just as easily given it to any of the others. All excellent.

Theme 2: …Emotion
Big Red. Just.
Also loved the, dare I say it, hang dog expression from TonyT, but I felt it could have been cropped to better effect.
Louie. I'm always a sucker for the left field approach, but just pipped this time.

Theme 3: …Kitchen Utensil
Louie. The masher might be humble, but the photograph isn't. Take a bow.
Close runner up - paul mac. Were you trying for all four? I see three.

Theme 4: …Animal
pjs. I've never seen a bird actually building a nest before. Well spotted

So hard to choose but here goes:

Reflections - rflower

Emotion - Big Red (closely followed by Mr Darcy)

Kitchen Utensil - TonyT (nice to see some kitchens still have and use them!)

Animal - Big Red (could just as easily put TonyT's picture of Sally here!)

Theme 1: …Reflections
Hard one to decide here, as they all had merit. Rflower just gets it ahead of Mr Darcy.

Theme 2: …Emotion
Hands down winner Mr Darcy. Nice self portrait though, BigRed.

Theme 3: …Kitchen Utensil
Mr Darcy. It could also be a found object from the Garden Island trip you guys did...

Theme 4: …Animal
Big Red, with a close runner up by pjs for her action photo.

Remember you can vote even if you didn't enter.

Hello,

I am voting for PJS for ANIMAL.

I thought paulmac's photos for Emotion was a more impressive picture, but i dont feel it actually engages with the topic. So I am voting for Mr Darcy in this category.

I liked paulmac's spoon for a kitchen utensil.

and I like bigred for Reflections.

Hi guys!
My votes are:

Reflections: Mr Darcy. I absolutely loved everyone's reflection and couldn't decide, but this one grabbed me.

Animal: pjs. I like the colours in this. I also liked Big red's.

Emotion: Tony T. I am a sucker for animals. I love pics of dogs. Though her eyes looked like she didn't like having the picture taken, she almost looks like she is smiling. I also like the irony in Paulmac's pic.

Kitchen utensils: Big Red. I like the colour and sharpness to it.

Great job to everyone! This was a hard one to vote.

Sarahmac.

This was a really tough comp this month.

Not because the themes were hard (for a change :) ), but because the standard of the entries was so high.

Personally I think every one who participated is a winner.

Anyway, here are the scores:
Theme 1: …Reflections
paulmac 4; rflower 3; Mr Darcy 2; BigRed 1

Theme 2: …Emotion
Big Red 4; Mr Darcy 3; TonyT 3; paulmac 1

Theme 3: …Kitchen Utensil
Louie 4; Big Red 2; paulmac 2; Mr Darcy 1; TonyT 1

Theme 4: …Animal
Big Red 4; pjs 4; Mr Darcy 1; TonyT 1

For the scrutineers: I included pucara's early vote, but, via PM, cleared it with Louie and confirmed that pucara was happy with his votes as cast. He was overseas, and got tricked by the timezone difference.

Thank you all, both entrants and voters, but especially the entrants.
See you again in a month. Next month, the 15th is on a weekend, so it will definitely cover that date, but will be mid week to mid week for those, like me, who will be away for the weekend.

Also don't forget Big Red's Weekend challenge coming up in a week or two, and remember to give him some more themes.

Thank you again
Greg
