Each week, one of the moderators or administrators selects an image that, for whatever reason, catches their eye. Please feel free to add your comments here. Vigorous discussion of the images and techniques is welcome and encouraged. Criticism of any mod for their choice is not. Please note that this is "Picture of the Week"; do not confuse that with "best picture of the week", which is a concept of which we have no understanding.

I'm sure that the other mods will agree with me when I say that the most difficult part of selecting PotW is deciding which images to not select. There's always several standouts, and it's tough that this is deciding picture of the week, rather than pictures of the week. That said, for this week a number of images were popsted by Steve Griffin from his recent trip to Greenland. Steve started with a significant advantage over most of us: after all, how many of us have Greenland on our list of destinations? But just going there does not a PotW make. You have to make some images, you have to PP them, and you have to post them. And most importantly, one of those images needs grab the attention of whomever the current week's selector might be. As you've probably surmised by now, that task falls to me this week, and this the image that has grabbed me. Apart from the spectacular backdrop, Steve's compositional eye is perfect, with a row of kayaks leading the eye into the image, where one might surmise a mountainous trek is about to unfold. A great pictoral story, well told. Original thread here.

Thankyou Gary. I haven't been on the forum for a few days due PC problems but thought that I would upload a shot for the challenge and Yahoo what a pleasant suprise. I have to recommend Greenland as a destination. If you are planning a European trip it isn't that expensive to get there from most major cities in Europe. It really is spectacular!! I would certainly love to go back in the winter and do the dog sledding thing but there are probably 10,000 ($) good reasons why that isn't going to happen in the near future. There are a few other pix from the trip on my Smugmug site http://indiana.smugmug.com in the Travel / Greenland gallery

Congratulations Stevo! Very well deserved. I was watching your Smugmuggery since the day after you got back (seems ages ago now!). I loved all of your kayak trek shots. Spectacular place captured spectacularly!
Great choice Gary.
