I have seen the G10 on some shelves here in the US - retail for USD499 which equates to about AUD725 at todays exchange rates.

I have owned a G9 for about 5 months. Very impressive little camera in good light. The view finder is completely unusable, but apart from that it is at the top of the P&S heap. It still is no DSLR, but for a compromise, when you can't/don't want to carry an SLR around, it does an excellent job. BTW, it will take pretty good shots at 1.5 fps, which is unusual for a P&S camera. The G10 should be better than the G9.

I'll see what I can dig up - flying to Perth tomorrow, but will try to dig up a couple tonight. Basically a good camera when used within its limitations. (ie not over 400 ISO.)

Luminous Landscape found accidently that the G10 is great camera and basically/almost said for prints up to A3 its as good as an MF digital back....

I have one, not a pocket camera , but it will fit in a small bag and put that on your belt?

Wanted a P&S have a 40D & soon to be 5DII

As for ISO I find it get 'issues' above ISO 200 , got it from JB $600 before Xmas

I had a play with the G10 (yes, I used a Canon!!) in store the other day and whilst I wasn't able to really test it in low light I was VERY impressed with it. That said, and as previously advised in this thread, it's not really a small/compact P&S. We are in the market for a new P&S and if the CFO (aka wife) gives the go ahead I'd probably buy this in a heartbeat. I would prefer to try it in low light too and see how it performs. Hope this helps. The video quality on this little number was also outstanding.

My partner has a G10 (it started life as a G9, went around the world twice and was then dropped on the bedroom floor with the lens out). It is an outstanding compact. I prefer "compact" to "P&S" as the latter term carries prejudicial connotations in some circles, and as has been mentioned the G10 in certain circumstances can rival much more expensive gear.

As the DSLR user of the two of us I have been generally impressed by it. Auto does fine for the casual user about 95% of the time. For the rest, typically difficult lighting conditions, it has all the functionality of a DSLR like exposure compensation, bracketing, spot metering, etc. The problem is its owner doesn't know how to use them. However, the G10 is tremendously flexible and is ideal for the user who is willing to experiment and learn.

The link to Michael Reichmann's article comparing the G10's image quality to that of a Hasselblad MF has already been given. I would also add photo journalist Bill Pierce's favourable comments, as well as Bill Lockhart's rebuttal of DPReview's less than favourable review.
