Mother and young :)We have a new wasp nest in the process, and I really don't want to convince them to move - just have to keep an eye on them and see if they start getting agro - if they do, they go Dodging and burning are steps to take care of mistakes God made in establishing tonal relationships! -Ansel Adams

Re: Mother and young :)Lovely exposure, Rel. Nice sharp head on the wasp. I think I would have liked to have seen the whole adult wasp sharp.

Re: Mother and young :)I love the eggs in the wasp nest!!!!!
Re: Mother and young :)Considering the available DOF I label this as a top shot. You certainly rock with the D70 Rel

Re: Mother and young :)Very nice indeed, I love how sharp the mother is, I'm yet to able to produce something this sharp on an object that small. You were using the 105 VR Macro correct?

Re: Mother and young :)It is an ugly thing to look at, but an excellent photo with a very natural feel to it. Thanks for sharing it with us.
What lens did you use to get such a close look?

Re: Mother and young :) Thanks everyone
I have a confession to make too - the D70 has now been relegated to backup body - after a big long discussion, and actually arm twisting from Damo and a long hard look at the way the prices were/are changing (going up due to the Au$) I picked up a D700 from Photocontinental during the week for $3500. Probably way toooooo good a camera for me but it is certainly fast, sharp and heaven !!!! I don't feel like I deserve such a good camera, but hopefully I'll be able to justify it I can't believe that Damo pushed so hard for me to get it !!!! (but I'm glad that he did ) Agree with the adult abdomen being oof, but I was lying on the ground under the nest shooting up, and decided to get the adult head/eyes and the larvae in focus rather than the whole adult body - if the body had all been in focus, some of the larvae would not have been.... The shot was taken with the trusty 105 macro (not VR), SB800 and lightsphere, and the shot has been slightly cropped Thanks again everyone Hugs Rel Dodging and burning are steps to take care of mistakes God made in establishing tonal relationships! -Ansel Adams

Well done that girl! You deserve it, too. I notice the PhotoContinental price on their web site is $3699. Are they doing the D700 for $3500? TFF (Trevor)

Re: Mother and young :)Rel
I find the image creepy and kinda repellant which is a testament to how well captured it is. The OOF body bothers me not in the slightest since seeing the larvae really extends the image for me. As for the D700 - I can't wait to see what you do with the extra capability it offers you. You're a lucky woman Peter

Re: Mother and young :)- sounds bloody good - lol, I wish (so does Damo probably ) - probably more of the same - ok - $3599, but Teds did offer it to me for $3500, and I had agreed to pick it up following day, and the gent went to check that they still had one in stock (computer said yes, but best to look 'on ground' ) and turns out the one in stock was actually sitting out the back with a hold sticker on it PC does have it as $3699, but just ask them to do it cheaper and they will !!! Re: Mother and young :)
Given the limited DOF, I think you chose well. Congratulations on the new camera. Of course, you know that now you have a FF camera, shooting at 1:1 will result in the subject being slightly smaller in the frame than you got with the D70, but that will be made up for by the extra pixels to work with cropping.
Re: Mother and young :)congrats on the new camera and it looks like you are already getting great shots out of it
