B&W train photography

I read about this b&w train photography at Rob Galbraith. The photography is by Jim Shaughnessy and it is an article in Wired News. It is well worth the read to see the photos and the interview with Jim Shaughnessy.

Thanks for pointing this article out. Absolutely fantastic train shots there, and it has inspired me to try some of my own. I have to admit, however, that I feel half a century late to get the good photos - smoke billowing from a hard working steam train is hard to beat as a railway photography subject.

I love those train photos - they are so romantic - something about the smoke and metal and just draws my mind back t thosee movies that i've grown up with....

a friend of mine took some really nice photos at zig zag railway in the blue mountains - they were stunning - taken wit b/w film... on my list of things to do

Great series of shots. With many things, their time will go...ferries, road trains, merchant bankers, skate parks, circuses, caravan parks, local cafes, street musicians, red cross raffles, 2up at anzac day.

We are here and what is "mundane" now will be the nostalgia of the future. Anyway I was taken by his comment..."

I wish I had taken double the pictures I did take, because you can't go back now."

Such a good quote!

Even now I look back fondly on the old Red Rattlers, that were all over the Sydney rail network just 10 years ago, with some fondness. Riding to school standing by the open door with the wind on your face. It's just not the same sealed into a millennium train.

Mind you I guess the challenge is there to try and capture some essence of what today's trains are and where they fit into our lives, so that in 20 years you can look back at them with fond memories.
