nikkor 14-24 & 24-70 newbie Q

Postby wendellt on Thu Oct 30, 2008 5:42 pm

hi

just wondering if someone can shed some light on this

what the field of view will be on the nikkor 14-24 at 14mm on a d2x

just comparing it to the field of view from a 17-35mm

also the field of view of a nikkor 24-70 f2.8 N at 24mm lens on a d2x

thankyou

Hi Wendel...
The 12-24mm has a field of view of 90° - 61° on the nikon D2Xs. On the D3 or D700 it is 114° - 84°
The 24-70mm has a field of view of 61° - 22°50’ on the D2Xs. On the D3 or the D700 it is 84° - 34°20’
This information is easily found on Nikon Australia's website under the technical details of each lens (just in case you thought I was being particularly encyclopedic today!).
Not sure where you are at but rather than buying glass to suit the field of view of the D2X, would you be better or automatically expanding your field of view by moving onto the FX format?
Hope this is a help... Ants

The 17-35 will be a better range on the DX bodies, but the 14-24 + 24-70 combination will be a lot wider, do you have 2 bodies?

Hey Wendell,

In short. The 14-24 is wider than the 17-35 on the widest end, and also shorter on the long end. It can do a wide area down to a full body length shot, going for half body or quarter profile gets you too close to the subject.
But have you seen the lens itself? It is a big bugger. The front element protrudes outwards to the front. Any mishandling can mean a nasty scratch on it. So you can't handle the same way as you do with other lenses, must be very very careful to handle the 14-24 as it can be a very nasty repair quote if u scratch the front.

The 24-70 is slightly wider than the 28-70, but not too sure if it is really that 'wide' on a D2X.
