Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.
Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.
Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.
Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

My apologies for the common theme running through many of my recent posts... We were at a friend's daughter's 1st birthday at Fagan Park in Galston on the weekend, and took a bit of time to get some shots of The Child while we were at it. The sky had clouded over, and she was a bit grumpy due to wanting a nap.... this influenced my composition, choice of setting and post prod treatment in these shots. D300, 70-200VR @ f/2.8. SB-800 dialled down -2EV just for catch lights I've already thought up a good caption for the first shot, which will be used on her 1st Birthday party invitations... "You better come to my birthday party..... or else I'm going to get grumpy!" Hallmark, eat your heart out. This looks quite precarious but she is actually a fair distance from the edge of the step as she was on a landing. The compression due to shooting at 200mm helped to disguise that.  For this one, I wish I had repositioned her so that I could get one of the bridge posts in line with Phoebe and in sharp focus. Can't fix that in post unfortunately

What a cutie! The first shot has a little more impact for me. I'd prefer to see the slightly distracting OOF edge of the step at the very bottom cropped out.

Thanks Hangdog. Good point on the step at the bottom of the pic. I might have a go at re-cropping later on.. Though I stuffed up and lost ALL my bibble settings from this entire set of photos so I will have to re-create them all

I agree about losing that bottom step. That was my first thought, in fact.
I'm also toying with the idea of making this a vertical pano: perhaps crop a little from each side, to make the image taller, and/or perhaps photochop it to add more steps at the top and over-emphasise the height of the stairs. Given its intended use, that might add a bit of a fun aspect to it.
