Small/close fitting DSLR cases

In the old days they called them ever ready cases- you know what i mean, the leather ones where the front could snap off to take a shot and then on again for protection- leica users still probably use them.

Well I want a case for my 50D that just covers the camera and a small lens (18-55 or small primes). I have a lowepro AW 70 which is great for going out with a couple lenses etc, but also want something that "hugs" the camera. Mainly for when space is tight in a backpack.

Any ideas????

I remember the never-ready cases very well.

I think there's a small Lowepro case that will suit; I'm sure I saw somebody with one at Leigh's party last Saturday.

Yeah i know what you mean, they just ended up dangling in the way or annoying you when you had to change film. They did however protect the camera, although most of the cameras I had them on were so solid they almost didnt need it.

I use a Crumpler $3m home for that, not that it is the style you are looking for.

Mind you, its a bit small with the lenses I have now too

Think Tank make some bags in their "Digital Holster" line that appear to do that sort of job pretty well. They are more form fitting than some of the other toploaders I have used before (I used to have the Lowepro Topload Zoon, I think it was called)

The only problem is getting hold of them. At the moment they do not have an Aussie distributor, so you have to either order direct or from the New Zealand distributor, Lacklands. I have used both, and do not have any complaints.

I did alot of looking but ended up getting one off ebay for just over $20. The optech has the name and presumably the quality, but couldnt get it for less than $50. Found a no name neoprene that looks like it will do the job when i go hiking with all my gear for a few days out in the bush. If youve done any overnight walking you know how quickly a rucsack can fill up with tent, bag, and food, so saving space is key.

Very happy with mine and can fit a 50d and 10-22.
