d80 wired or wireless remote ?

Hi, I'm looking at getting a remote but am unsure about which one (mainly for night work)
I don't mind the corded one but unsure about the wireless and as to how long the batteries last in the wireless.
What are the benefits of each, I just have not used one.

opinions please, positive or negitive Thank you.

I had a wireless remote for my D70 ( the same one as you would need I think) but have a wired remote for my D200.
I much prefer the wireless to the tethered one.
Reasons:
1. I could get much further away with the wireless I could be in a group shot, and fire the shutter. No need for tat pesky timer.

2. Totally eliminates camera shake (other than mirror slap) If I use the wired one on the tripod (common), I basically have to leave the remote swinging in the breeze. Some of that motion has to transfer to the camera. If I am inside and have a table nearby, this is not an issue, but outsode at full extension, it is. I could probably make up a strap to hold the remote to one of the legs, but I haven't done so yet.

3 It was much much cheaper.

4. Always handy,. THe little pouch it comes with attaches to the camera strap. Th wired one is usually in my OTHER bag when I want it.

Battery life was not really an issue. The original I put in lasted the time I had the camera (about a year) Pam hasn't used the remote yet, so I am not sure if it still works. Anyway, it uses 2320s from memory, which are almost as common as AAs these days.

THe only downside experienced was that it had a blind side. Rage was much reduced if the sensor couldn't see the remote.

Gee, I'd find the opposite. My rage would increase if the remote wouldn't work.

I have a wireless remote for my D300 and I agree with all Greg's comments. The only thing I would add is that battery life can be severely compromised if you leave the remote in your camera bag and the button gets pressed continuously.

Wired + wireless (radio frequency), gives you almost all the advantages of the wireless IR remote (other and size) and gives you better reliability and range.

The Phottix Cleon (Nikon Version) seems to be designed for the 10 pin remote socket on the D200,300... cameras.

That makes it interesting for me, but not for Lightning.

His camera uses a different socket (two or three pin - not clear in the photo I looked at), but is compatible with the ML-L3 which at a mere $30 or thereabouts (It's been a while since I looked) is one of the few Genuine Nikon bargains.

Also it has two parts which makes it at least twice as likely to be lost or damaged; and range, according to the review I looked at, is only about 15m. I got that consistently with the ML-L3 as long as I had line of sight.

Oh and ATJ: Range. Dammit Range.

ml l3 is infared so I need to be in front of (or the remote does) to trigger the shutter ? is this a problem in any way ?

the cleon (cool name, "yes dear I won't be long, just plugging in my cleon !!) is radio and can be used from behind the camera, so I'm thinking that would be a benefit ?

Correct. Can even be out of sight.

And being rf, it also has a longer range.
