Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

MMM04 - Photoaffinity

Ok, so i figured there was still time to make some shots. all shot tonight, none are perfect, all done with the 5dmkii and kit lens.

Enjoy!

Theme 1 - Motor
This one was either going to go in "movement" or motor, and i thought of a better idea for movement.

Image

(I know it's not as clean as it could be but hey cut me some slack, I'm trying for four themes in an hour here)

Nikon sb24 in a shoebox with a blue gel at 1/8 power.
Difusion gel sheet on top of the shoebox, the watch is sitting on that.
There is an umbrella box with a Metz sca3000 at 1/4 power behind and above the whole setup, and the whole lot is radio triggered.

---

Theme 2 - White on white

A bit of a cop-out i know, but it's a milk drop. i added an orange reflector (shoebox) to add a little bit of colour. you can see the setup shot on my flickr.

Image

Metz SCA 3000 camera right, about 6 inches from the plate, 1/256 power, less 1/3stop (minimum power). orange reflector to cast a bit of colour in the shadow, camera left. see the setup photo linked above for more.
(also if you look closely, you can see the shoebox text reflected in the shadow area)

---

Theme 3 - Pain

Ok, this was a tricky one in the short time i have... so i took it literally and fired a studio strobe at my face.

Image

Cheapo 150 w/s studio strobe, fired at 1/16 power, hand held (duh). the rest of the shot is lit by an SB24 (or it could be the Metz again) at about a quater power facing the lit side of the strobe body.

i can still feel my face burn

---

Theme 4 - Movement

It's a over exposed, has camera movement and far from ideal framing i know. cut me some slack, once again this is 4 themes in an hour! (it's hard to juggle so many things in such a short time *boom tish*)

Image

Metz SCA 3000 camera right, snooted, 20hz, 10 cycles. sb24 camera left and across the room, 1/4 power. radio triggered, hand held.

and yep, that's me in the shot.

The third one is not flattering, but nevertheless it is the one I would send to my girlfriend's parents.
