Benro tripods - any good?

Was considering purchasing one of these tripods with a ball head, does anyone have a comment on quality and usefulness?

'Benro tripods' was my search and it gave me no results - could have a misspell problem though, as it now turns up 28.

the only benro product i stand by is the kb-1 ballhead its a fraction of the cost of the gitzo equivalent
its small compact and it's sturdy enough although details like the smoothness of the ballhead is compromised a little
but you get what you pay for, kb1 ballhead still workign well after 2 years in my hands

i have 2 other benro tripods which i have broken one snapped in half(carbon fibre leg and welded ontop of legs between head attachment) after a few months of heavy usage

The key phrase in that statement being "i have broken". Wendell is the forum's torture tester, and he is no longer permitted to use any glassware, sharp knives, and he may only write notes using blunt crayons on thin cardboard.

Benro tripods represent excellent value for money, are quite well constructed, and stand up well to most forms of abuse.

I have a Benro head kb-2 that has been good. Rubber cover over nobs broke off after about 3 months. The ball is not super smooth. The clamp arrangment for the plate got squeeky and wouldnt turn.


BUt, a little maintainence and it sall good. I very small spray of silicon spray and I reckon it is better than new. Smooth opertation. will hold the D700 80-400 combo without creep. No worreis.

To fix the rubber I replaced with "O" rings and ring glue. Better than new.

So for the price I cant complain.

Benro tripods are outstanding value for the money. If you treat them with a little care they will give many years of excellent service. The most common form of mistreatment with these (or any) tripods is to over tighten the friction locks. A firm but gentle touch is required. Carbon fibre tripod legs do not break unless you step on them.
