need to borrow: camera silencerHi everyone,
it's been a while since i've been here and things seem to have undergone a slight makeover! i was wondering if anyone in sydney has a camera silencer that i could borrow this evening? something similar to this: http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/conten ... -3408-3436 or if you know of a good DIY link, i'd greatly appreciate it. I've found one but it involves a pelican case of some sort thanks heaps, -Julian

Re: need to borrow: camera silencerThis is when you wished that DSLRs had an electronic shutter...

Re: need to borrow: camera silencer
Could I ask a noob question? Does that mean the sync speed is unlimited??
Re: need to borrow: camera silencer
Fastest sync speed on the D70 was 1/500s.
Re: need to borrow: camera silencer
No. Fastest sync speed on the D70 was the fastes shutter speed the camera was capable of attaining. 1/4000 or 1/8000 .... I cannot remember, and my D70 is at Lindy's. By disabling one of the extra (non-standard) contacts on the hotshoe, one could enable this undocumented feature. g.

Re: need to borrow: camera silencer
1/8000s according to the manual.
Well there you go. How would you go about disabling the contact? A bit of tape over it?
Re: need to borrow: camera silencer
Thank you. I have a manual somewhere around here ... three, actually - two hard copies (one for each of our bodies) and a pdf version on our fileserver. Saved in a safe location that I knew, when I saved it there, would be safe and easily remembered. I just need to remember that which was once thought to be "easily remembered".
Exactly. g.

Re: need to borrow: camera silencer
And a mechanical one as well, (not to mention a mirror, but I guess that's a given with a DSLR ) so it is nowhere near quiet enough to use in a classical concert environment. Cheers What's another word for "thesaurus"?
Re: need to borrow: camera silencer
Be that as it may, I was very surprised at how quiet and smooth the D3X is in use. g.

Re: need to borrow: camera silencerHoly Carp!
1/8000 shutter with flash would be extremely useful when shooting outdoor stuff! What's the advantage of the mechanical shutter anyway? I wonder why they don't use elctronic shutter more... Thanks for your answers Gary and Andrew. The answer was in one of those links you gave...
