Query about the d200Hello everyone, its been a while since i posted. I have been logging in reading up and seeing whats going on and seeing some of the pics being posted.
But your probs wondering why i am querying the d200, well simply put i had my husbands christmas dinner yesterday. His older bro brought his d200, and i was gob smacked, i loved it. The weight, the comfortability of it, and the quality. Well I own as everyone may or may not recall an oly e510, loved it, but now want the d200, even my husband who rarely touches my camera noticed the difference, is it just me or is the d200 a nice camera? Is it worth while selling my trusty oly for a d200? any recomendations to where i can get a good price on one? best i can find is around the 1600, but really i'd like a bit cheaper. hehhee (wouldn't we all) Thanks for looking and have a safe and wonderful christmas!! kristen 2 x Fuji xt1,vg-xt1 grip, Fujinon xf 18-55mm 2.8-4, Fujinon xf 14mm, Fujinon 56mm 1.2.

Re: Query about the d200To answer your question, yes the D200 has a superb body to it, but if your looking at it look at the D90. I have to cameras with D200 derived bodies (D300 and S5 Pro) and they are very, very nice to hold and feel solid and reliable, not that your e510 is not any of those either, but it is smaller.

Re: Query about the d200I had a D200, and yes they are nice to use. I didnt like the images it produced much, loss of shadow detail, then if you exposed for the shadows you would loose the highlights. And the D200 produces quite a lot of noise fro 400ISO up.
Ok, Ive told you some down sides, but if the images from the D200 are better than from the E510 then it may be the camera for you. I have seen 200's for about a grand second hand, but with the other guys, a D90 would be the go. The D90 wins on most levels. Re: Query about the d200If your serious abou the D200 series, definatley look at the s5Pro, I think Vabar had them body for $999. So effectively it is a the D200 with the fuji sensor. Well worth th e look.
Also dont sicoutn second hand D200's. Now tha the D300 adn D700 are out some people have off loaded the D200. Check ebay. MATT
Re: Query about the d200
Yes, it is a nice camera, it is older technology now, so does have noise etc at higher ISO than newer Nikon digitals (like the D90 / 300 etc). The extra weight/size is quite good IMHO (as I own one.... now 2.? years old)..... And I'd either be looking for a 2nd hand one, or if going new, I'd say either a D90 or D300, depending on budget would be better buys. Or, there is a D80 - again older, but keenly priced in FS here viewtopic.php?f=38&t=34971 Just bear in mind that then you will be hunting lenses.... and more lenses, and faster lenses, etc. On that topic, I was handed a friends Canon 350D and 17-85 lens yesterday and it wasn't comfortable for me to hold & use.... Re: Query about the d200wow, thanks everyone for your input. I've been doing a little more research, and well i'm going to attempt to save and buy a d300 or d90, just because of the newer technology in the cameras. I love my camera and just can't seem to allow myself to sell it. -i think its because it cost me so much when i brought it new (1700) about a year and a half back now. Its amazing how quickly the cameras technology are changing, knowing my luck when i save enough (its hard with 3 kids under 5) to buy the nikon they would have released new series.
Anyways, thanks for your advice and recomendations. I have taken them aboard and fully agree. Take care and have a very safe and happy christmas and new year! Kristen 2 x Fuji xt1,vg-xt1 grip, Fujinon xf 18-55mm 2.8-4, Fujinon xf 14mm, Fujinon 56mm 1.2.
Re: Query about the d200
You will really love either body, but you are right the replacement models could arrive sooner than you think thanks to the ever accelerating product cycle (Canon's XXD series is now in a one year cycle - I'm scared!!). I know how you feel about selling your E510, I parted with my D40x before I bought my D300 and I miss it dearly. If I got the chance I would buy it back but I doubt I would get the chance. Cameron
