Excellent Lighting Tutorial DVDLet me start by saying that this thing is US $250 + US $30 shipping. I didn't
buy it, someone else did and lent it to me for a look. Personally, it looks like a LOT of money, but I can see that it took time and effort to produce so fair enough. It is called One Light because the guy - Zack Arias - uses one light in the tutorials (in conjunction with available light), and that light is frequently a Nikon SB 800 with a soft box or an umbrella. Observations.... - Zack can be a bit annoying to begin with, but I grew to like him - he gives great info, about equipment, technique, everything - I found the whole thing inspiring, and I am keen to get wireless triggers and a soft box - if you are experienced with lighting, the info in the DVDs may all be old news, but I found it revelatory - this is probably the best tutorial on the subject I have seen, and totally and convincingly shows what you can do with one flash and some other gear I reckon if you got a group of maybe 10 together, shared the cost and shared the DVD around (I think that would be legal) you would be very pleased. If you have excess money, just buy it yourself. Zack is primarily a music photographer based in Atlanta. http://onelightworkshop.com/ http://www.zackarias.com/ Greg - - - - D200 etc

Re: Excellent Lighting Tutorial DVD$250USD for a DVD ? sorry Greg but i dont care how much time and effort went into it, thats just highway robbery imo. i wouldnt buy it out of sheer bloody minded principal. and people wonder why there's an illegal markt for these things ? lol

Re: Excellent Lighting Tutorial DVDHave a read of strobist.com if you want to learn about lighting with small lights. it's brilliant and best of all free!
Re: Excellent Lighting Tutorial DVD
As a replacement for a seminar, and one that you can refer back to time and time again, I don't think it's as bad as you make out. I've got the Strobist set - although that's half the price for seven DVDs cheers, juice

Re: Excellent Lighting Tutorial DVDJust to clarify, the OneLight thing is two DVDs.
I don't disagree that it is a lot of money, that's why I started the post with the price I most certainly wouldn't pay the price. However, and leaving the price aside for a moment, the content is really good Greg - - - - D200 etc

Re: Excellent Lighting Tutorial DVDWith $250, I would buy 2 speedlights and start playing with it. Surf up strobist and learn myself than in front of a TV...
Re: Excellent Lighting Tutorial DVDThe strobist set is REALLY good IMO.
I *ahem* obtained copies of some of the videos, but I will be shelling out for the set at some point - it is great to see good material being produced, and I'd like to ensure that they can recoup costs and continue making them!! I reckon it makes teh learning process a lot easier by SEEING how it is done (they typically flash up the results onscreen during the video so you get an idea what actions result in which results).
Re: Excellent Lighting Tutorial DVDSomething related to this. I was lucky to obtain a copy of a 4 DVD set of "On Lighting" by a lighting guru Dean Collins. The training video was produced in the 80s but it still has a fantastic value. Not sure how much it is if you were to purchase a copy tough.

Re: Excellent Lighting Tutorial DVD
http://strobist.blogspot.com/2008/05/no ... -dvds.html I wouldn't get carried away with the cost per DVD It's the information therein. I'm a huge fan of the Strobist set, and very glad I got it, but it's a workshop that they recorded, so it can be pretty slow in parts. They also record a few on the spot setups which are really useful (one DVD each, and the first DVD is a gear rundown). I love the set and think it was well worth it (although I bought it when the PP was at about .98) but I would LOVE to see Zack's, as I'm a big fan of his stuff. Not no way though at the moment, with the exchange rate and the initial cost. cheers, juice

Re: Excellent Lighting Tutorial DVDhey greg, if we can get a Melbourne group together, lets get a copy and host a meet, we can watch it, then practise it!
