Re: Bug wars!Great shots, David. It is a robber fly. They catch and eat bees (and other insects plus spiders, too). Note that none of them are bugs (Order Hemiptera).
Re: Bug wars!
Thanks Andrew, never heard of them! You learn something new every day. Somehow, "Asilidae Wars" just doesn't have the same impact 7D, 60D, 70-200mm f/4LIS, 17-50mm f/2.8, 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5, 50mm f/1.4, 100mm f/2.8 Macro, 580EX II
Re: Bug wars!Insect Wars! works for me.
Also note that the robber flies are in family Asilidae, but the prey isn't (at least not in your photos) so it wouldn't really be Asilidae Wars.
Re: Bug - erm sorry, I mean Insect - Wars!Post title fixed!!
I stand corrected...... Again 7D, 60D, 70-200mm f/4LIS, 17-50mm f/2.8, 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5, 50mm f/1.4, 100mm f/2.8 Macro, 580EX II
