Hi,
Today I noticed a fairly large dust particle (small fibre) inside my kit (18-70) lens. It's between elements. I guess it got there as air gets sucked in during zoom. I cannot see that it affect my photos but should I get it cleaned by Nikon or forget it. Would it be covered by warranty?
Thanks
Alex

Yes, if it's within 12 months it'll be covered by Nikon. It's rarely to have dust there, I have my lenses for many years and none of them have dust in, wonder why?

Thanks. I was quite surprised to see it there.
Does anyone know if Camera Clinic in Melbourne will do this job under warranty or would I have to ship the lens to Maxwell in Sydney?
Regards,
Alex

I know exactly why Birdy, this is simple. You take utmost care with all your gear, and it's very admirable, we could all take a leaf out of your book with this!

Perhaps. I've only had it for a couple of months. But how else can I care for it. It is always attached to the camera and stored in a camera bag, capped. And it's not like it's the dirt on the front element (by the way the lens has a UV filter on full-time too), it's a dust particle somewhere inside. How do you take care of your lenses?

wash it two times a day in warm water with mild soap, skin conditioner or spa or steambath Don't be at me
It should getting dust somewhere, when you shoot or may be in the bag, or at some dusty events, if it get inside the lens, there's only way: send it back to Nikon for warranty, then you won't have the lens with the camera.
You can't take photo with the body cap on!

Thanks for that. I'll call Nikon tomorrow. I'm in Melbourne and they normally suggest going to Camera Clinic. Has anyone had any service done there?
Luckily, I have my 70-300 lens also.
Cheers
