SnakesAnd of course, we came across some snakes in our travels as well - this lovely red-bellied black snake got a little shirty at us, and gave a wonderful display of his flattened head
And this little golden-crowned snake was gorgeous, but a little feisty !! Dodging and burning are steps to take care of mistakes God made in establishing tonal relationships! -Ansel Adams

Re: SnakesGutsy! Nice Shots though
I'd be wearing jeans and boots! I once did the mexican hat dance on a red belly black in shorts n thongs...now thats another whole story!
Re: SnakesOh one thing I noticed is that your images are in Adobe RGB, which displayed on cruddy browsers that don't support the colour gamut they will appear dull like.. luckily for me safari shows them to me in all their beauty! for posting to web, you should convert your photos to sRGB for full compatibility
Re: SnakesThey are both excellent shots Rel!.. I can't decide which of them is my favourite; although the red bellied is probably slightly ahead because of the superb dof!
The last thing I want to do is hurt you... but it's still on the list...
Re: Snakes
I've done similar... stepped out of a side sliding door "suddenly" onto a narrow, shady courtyard garden just off a nature preserve, and... yikes! I was either barefoot or in very skimpy footwear... but I think the snake was almost more startled than I was. Wish I'd been able to simultaneously "dance" and take a pic... now *that* would have been an interesting shot. Great shots, Rel. I have to pick the first one for "sentimental" reasons. Rae
. All the gear and no idea. PPOK / Others' pics in my threads OK
Re: SnakesRel, I like both shots. The red-bellied has much better sharpness and DOF as Sue points out, but the pose and colouration of the golden-crowned almost makes up for it. Maybe it's my tired old eyes, but these don't look as sharp as your usual photos and there seems to be a bit of noise.
Re: SnakesI'd be looking at these down the barrel of a shotgun and from a distance, but bloody good shots and your gamer than me and afraid not an animal i like.

Re: SnakesGreat Shots...
I'm all for the 1st one. Flatten head, beady eye, tongue out and nice DOF. How close were you? D4, D700, plus glass from 14mm to 200mm

Re: Snakesboth great shots Rel,
I wouldn't like to hurt them by letting them bite me, i would be using at least a 300 mm to keep them safe Shane
