Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent. Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature. Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread. Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

Playing with bokeh and DoF
Hi folks. Woah, it's been awhile since I visited this forum...I guess that's what happens when life gets in the way!
Unfortunately, my collection of lenses is still pitiful (the canon 450D kit lens and 'nifty fifty'), though I did also purchase a Yashica 635 TLR to try and renew my interest in photography  Anyway, I've been going on a few shoots further out of my comfort zone in the past few weeks, so I thought what better way to say 'hi' than to show what I've been up to Any and all constructive feedback is ABSOLUTELY welcome, so please let me know what you think and any tips you might have     "The rarest thing in the world is a woman who is pleased with photographs of herself" - Elizabeth Metcalf

I really like the first one. I think the image would be strong if the bee was heading towards the camera rather than away, but it is still pretty good.
The second one frustrates me a bit. I'd like to see more detail but can't. It reminds me of how I feel when I can't find my glasses. The third one is great. The detail of the nose and tongue is wonderful. The slightly out-of-focus eyes work well with the image. You could perhaps lighten the nose a tad for a little more detail. The face to the right of the forth doesn't work for me. It looks more like a mistake and takes away from the beautiful sunrise.

I agree with Andrew, i also really like the first one.. its got the soothing and welcoming feel to it

#3 is just awesome - I wouldn't change a thing.
#1 works for me - I disagree with Andrew and Julian and feel that the bee flying away and into the unclear wilderness of obvious abundant pleasures is kind of dreamy. I may feel a little intimidated if it were coming towards me  I do agree with Andrew on #2 and #4. If this is what you get with the kit lens and the nifty fifty then you put most to shame - thanks for posting. GaryR
