Cradle Mountian (Tasmania) in 4 Photos.First and foremost, Tasmania is one incredible place - the best advice is just to get down there and see it! (especially before they chop it all down - more on that at a later date )
A highlight for most tourists and myself was cradle mountian, we were blessed with magic weather and seized the opportunity to climb the highest peak at cradle mountian. So without out further ado, 4 pictures which i feel are quinessential cradle mountian, from the Dove lake at the crack of dawn to the rainforest at Ronny's creek to the peak of the mountian to the face track overlooking the lakes which can only be experience by being there! Over the period of nearly two weeks while I was there i took alot, i mean alot! of pictures, these are the first off cabs of the rank. Dove lake at about 6am The walk from Ronny's creek thru the rainforest to Marion's Lookout, the stepping stone for the summit. (Edited to crop alittle from the right...) The summit - 360 degree view, not a breath of wind. (will link a larger one if desired 12 images total) Face track - looks like the shorter way down...not...(Edited to remove curvature) Total of 10 hours walking on that day! PS. Thanks Cameron for the Lowepro bag - very dirty, scratched but performed! Last edited by biggerry on Sun Feb 01, 2009 3:37 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Re: Cradle Mountian (Tasmania) in 4 Photos. So thats what it looks like
We were there in March last year and it rained most of the time so the only picture I got was a post card. I met a QLD couple there and this was there second time there and like me never saw it. back a home I have talk to people who have done the walk as well but in the drizzle I think that it is only clear a few weeks a year. Really like the shots makes me want to go back again. The 1 st and last are my fav's Tony
Re: Cradle Mountian (Tasmania) in 4 Photos.Nice shots, will be down there in the first week of March. Hoping for some similar Cradle Mountain shots.

Re: Cradle Mountian (Tasmania) in 4 Photos.never got to dove lake
but thats one excellent picture did you camp out there to get up at 6am or did you wake up even earlier and trecked there Wendell Levi Teodoro

Re: Cradle Mountian (Tasmania) in 4 Photos.Gerry,
I am very jealous I've been to Cradle Mountain three times and not once was it ever like this. Maybe next time I'll be there at the start of May, keep the fingers crossed. Wendell, that sunrise on Dove Lake can be accessed easily from the car park, not much trekking required. The other three photos however, more walking needed Great colours and reflection on the first, I never got it this nice when I was there. On #2, love the intimacy of it, very nicely exposed, I might just be tempted to crop a bit on the left. Love the last one and having a person in there, really gives it a sense of scale. I really like this one. Only nit, minor, is to maybe just fix the curvature on it. Looks like you had a great time at Cradle Mountain, as popular as it gets there, it still is an amazing area. Re: Cradle Mountian (Tasmania) in 4 Photos.I've done the Overland Track twice, and you're right - it is a very beautiful place.
I love #2: the motion-blurred tannin-stained water just transports me to a Tasmainan rainforest. Latch

Re: Cradle Mountian (Tasmania) in 4 Photos.Great shots !
No 1 & 2 are spectacular. I d/l'd #1 and had a play in CS3, lightening the shadows a little. Still foreboding and still spectacular. Well done. Kevin
Re: Cradle Mountian (Tasmania) in 4 Photos.Nice shots Gerry. This is a lovely part of the world.

Re: Cradle Mountian (Tasmania) in 4 Photos.Gerry
I did that walk in 1979. Ancient history I know. it was all about the time of Lake Pedder. Your photographs bring back beautiful memories. Thanks Philip
Re: Cradle Mountian (Tasmania) in 4 Photos.
Ahh lake pedder, we did not make it out past the Styx valley which is probably a good thing since I liked the looks of it better in the pictures before they flooded it! another monumental fight clouded in controversy!
Well, you would have seen parts of Tassie that some of us will never see
Thanks colin, there is no doubt about it, Tassie is bloody incredible... (and the people are not bad either )
go for it! The only PP i did on it was the stitching and adjustment to the shadows to bring out the detail of the dark areas.
My hat goes off to you! we will do that next year I think, but we did do the 16.5 km leg at Lake St Clair, just to say we had at least done some of it!
Yeah I love these waterfalls, I have never seen water so clear in all my life - I am yet to go thru my other waterfall shots!
If it is any consolation, the day before we arive it was snowing and blowing a gale?! May/winter is the time to be there! the autumn leaves on the hills are apparently amazing, if you can get there before the wind blows them away it can make for some magic shots - so i was told! My fingers will be crossed for you! Yes I can see how that would help, there is some dead space there! Yep, will do that, the way the hills fall in that picture do make it look curvy!
Ah but you did one of the photos you showed me before I left was near this spot (http://www.zeduce.org/images/experimental/tas18.jpg)
Camped in the camp ground back at the chalet area, two days in a row got up and 5:15am the first was blowing a gale with white caps on the lake, the second one was as shown! As André mentioned the others involved substantial walking/scrambling/climb/falling
Whitey, if there is any advice I can give just let me know, I would be happy to help!
Thanks Tony, we were definitely blessed with the weather! Makes it very very easy to take a good picture of a magic place! gerry's photography journey
