First picture post (testing)

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

Sharon, it’s obvious from these excellent shots that you are either a brilliant beginner or have been around photography for some time

Thanks for the comments everyone :)

This was my first shoot (other than my kids) and first try at OCF (of which I really had no idea  I was shooting with another photog friend who was helping me with OCF)

While I made lots of errors.... I'm pretty happy with the results

That's exactly where they (both) were taken. Not far from the Links golf course between Normy & Second Valley.
We started the shoot at Second Valley, wanting to use the boat sheds only to discover that they were blocked off from the public! So we used the rocks there & then headed back to Normy stopping to do these shots on the way.

Shaz

Two great first time images. While #1 is good #2 is superb. #1 suffers a little for two reasons for me - firstly the light falls off too quickly around the girl's feet and second the pose looks a little awkward (eg the bent left leg). On the plus side you've made great use of the flash to fill the image in and make the most of the backlighting from the sun.

#2 by contrast looks very natural and is beautifully lit. The black and white treatment is also spot on. Keep posting. I can't wait to see your work as you get better with the OCF

Peter, Thanks for your CC  Its appreciated :)
I'm hearing you on the light fall off!! We had the girls mum holding a reflector and the flash was bounced off it. I know now that the flash/reflector should've been higher & angled better.

#2 is probably my fav from the session. The only thing that bothers me... is the position of her forearms/hands. Probably not the best pose!!

Live & learn hey? :)
Thanks again
