An icon that we will lose soon.

A few nights ago I went out shooting with a close friend from the top of his apartment block, overlooking the Carlton United Breweries that are now almost completely dismantled. It is kind of sad that the icon is gone but one smoke stack still stands.

These look great - almost like cardboard models in a way. I think I like the HDR image the least - doesn't seem to have the "pop" that the first two have (looks like it was made earlier in the evening?).

Must be nice to have friends in high places!

Carlto, of course, is a suburb in Melbourne, from whence the CUB originated.

This is, or was, the Kent Brewery, originally owned by Tooth & Co in the days BC, and it is where products such as Reschs DA were produced. Perhaps Patrick will offer some thoughts too?

One of the memories of Sydney which are now gone would be the smell of the hops that used to permeate the air around Broadway. The Kent Brewery was the source of these aromas ....

Yes my error, very sorry about that, the gates used to have Kent brewery on them now that you mention it. I guess all the references to the brewery as Carlton United Breweries has stuck. Did Patrick work with them?

Thanks muzz, the HDR did not turn out as well as I would have liked it, the frames were taken earlier but the blue skies are an artifact of the HDR (I am only starting to play with HDR in CS2 so I have a long way to go). It is awesome to have friends in high places, especially when you are shooting next to a Hassy H3DII, all of a sudden your D300+70-200VR seems tiny (and less terrorist....)

No, but I provided financial considerable support for a period of time. I assume Gary is referring to my forum name, "Reschsmooth", which refers to Reschs Smooth Black Ale, a very fine, dark beer produced by CUB in the mid to late 1990s:

Reschs Smooth Black Ale is CUB's newest old beer. With its dense, creamy head, rich mid palacte and chocolate mocha note, this ale was developed to respond to renewed interest in the traditional black beer segment among younger drinkers.

It was smoother than Tooheys Old, but not as heavy as Guinness.

We used to go to a lot of pubs in the inner west, chasing the beer - a favourate being the Forrest Lodge Hotel.
