Water drops

OK everyone has probably done this to death..but a frist attempt for me ...and probably a lifetime obsession trying to get it right

Canon 40D 100 macro 1 sec F5.6 off chamera flash (strobe)

I think my favourite's #3!
It's not quite spherical, but I think that adds some interest.

I think the background in #1 is dark yet "busy", whereas #3 is a simpler composition.

Great shots, Deb. How are you triggering the camera? The flash is freezing the action, but you are doing a fantastic job with timing.

Thanks for the great words of encouragement - think this will be a work in progress until I get 'the' shot..or give up in total frustration

re flash timing I use the 'best guess lucky finger' technique ..I have a bottle of water suspended above bowl and fitted one of those small irrigation tap sprinkler heads so I have some regularity in the drip..when the drop falls (I have a small light on in another room so I can just see) , I press the camera remote via cord..then when I hear the blop I shoot the flash ..after about 30 attempts I started to get the beat .
Re the dark backgrounds - yes I need to practice where I hold the flash until I get the balance right, might even lash out on a flash stand or grow a third hand so I can use my other small flash on the other side .

Couldn't help sharing this ...after showing them quite proudly to My 8 year old he though #4 looked like an alien and with Clip art and PSE came up with this ...not quite what I had in mind ?? but youv'e got to love kids !

#1 could easily be enlarged to be hung on wall as a nice abstract almost..

Maybe you can post a photo of your setup...

Surenj - I was set up in the kitchen so all has been packed up and put away but there will be a next time so I'll post a photo of set up then
