JSTCRZN take 2my mate wanted some more pics of his car, so we cruised out in the arvo.
here are a few 1) 2) 3) my favourite 4)
Re: JSTCRZN take 2Hey, nice concept and a couple of good angles, and your getting closer to a nice mix of flash and ambient light.
I am not sure if these are overexposed or not as I'm on an old laptop and well depending one the angle.... Although i think they are. These are also to cool for me. Adjust your white balance... it maybe a cool car but a little warmth would go a long way. 1. I'm not sure what your trying to highlight. If its the wheel you missed. If its the badge look up how to make a snoot or even a gridded snoot. But its not quite there for me. 2. I would loose the blown out sky. and try to get a bit more contrast into the building the a little back light for the car would be nice as well (how many flashes did you buy ) 3. This seems overexposed no matter what angle. A slight turn on the steering wheel for a bit more aggression! 4. Not quite enough or a little to much of the wheel for me. I feel the edge is just a little bit lost is where is should be. These are just my opinions.... but over all i think warm them up and keep working the ambient/flash mix. and don't let the highlights of the shiny surface blow out to much. ( for some of these what I'm seeing is probably off due to my monitor ) And the main thing is your are out there having a go good stuff Cheers D4, D700, plus glass from 14mm to 200mm

Re: JSTCRZN take 2yeah i agree that they are blown out too much,
cheers for the comments though, i will take them in and practise some more. this was with 3 flashes.
Re: JSTCRZN take 2HI there,
1. The bright triangle of blue sky distracts me from the car. It is too bright. Try metering off the sky (which will make the car darker), but then use the flashes to light the car. A bit of trial, chimping (looking at the back screen + histogram) and error would be order here - film is after all cheap . The other thing distracting is background as a whole ... the tree (top left corner), the passing car, even the painted lines near the tyre. For me if the car had been on that angle closer to the wall or if the entire background was sky, so the background was all uniform across the whole image, it would have been less distracting. 2. There is too much on the wall (the ugly white drain pipes, and the sign just above the boot are also distractions). Look at the background and try to frame the subject appropriately. I feel this could have been framed differently. If this shot had been taken in landscape instead of portrait, it would have looked better. For me the sky and trees are a distraction once more. If you try cropping this image just under the concrete lip above the roller door (LHS), it focuses the viewer more on the car (that's what you want us look at right), rather than the sky, the trees, the wall and everything on the wall. By changing the orientation of the camera, may have give more space in front and behind the car. The flashes are a bit hot at the back LHS, and a bit dark at the front RHS 3. This is probably the strongest image of the set (IMO). Once again look at background and flash intensity. 4. doesn't do much for me sorry. I don't mean to be negative with these comments. I give them as encouragement to keep trying and taking photos. Things to think about when framing subjects and before pressing the shutter button. Keep having a go. Russell
