Aussie Muscle Cars!!

G'day All,

Had the opportunity to shoot some awesome cars. The weather wasn't too kind to us, but we made use of what we had. I tried to capture the attitude of these beasts. And yes, these are original Phase3 GTHO's, of which there are less then 130 left in the world.

As always, C&C appreciated.

Nice set of cars and a solid group of shots, what a great opportunity to shoot these icons. The only thing I can offer is maybe to put the aerial down on the other two cars?

Don't you know that that's how they raced these beasts?

#3 for me as well.

#1 loses something because of the setting; the crane adds nothing IMHO.

Nice series, my picks would be the 2nd and 4th, that setting seems to suit the cars, in the 4th though i would have turned the front wheels the other way, shown the rim instead of the tyre even though its good to see period correct rubber on it!

Thanks for the responses. Keep em coming..

I'm suprised with the popularity of #3. I like the look, but was hesitant in getting rid of those bold colours. Yeah, may look at less vignetting.

Doctor, I know what you're saying for #4, and was thinking of doing the same thing, but somehow seeing the tyre does seem to give it some attitude.

i'm biting through my tongue to not comment on the subject's performance, so i'll keep my feedback on the topic of photography... :D

i like the variety you have shown here keith, but you left me wanting...

these cars, like their owners, are all about Testosterone. Big, strong, beefy, muscle cars! And to emphasize that an upward angle of view, with a wider than standard lens would help a great deal. Picture the angle of view of a powerful leader, the crowd is always observing from a lower angle. Thinking at least 35mm, up close, shot from bended knee, at the front wheel / corner. Did you get any from that angle, and down low? These ones look like they are all shot at standing height. If you want to make your subject look as powerful as Wayne Swann, you would shoot at or above above their height.

Just me too sense worf.

I really like #2. The colour of the cars is just so striking against the dark, almost monotone, warehouse background.

G'day Bruce,

I tend to agree, but that angle didn't quite work for the group shots, howeverI did get a few single car shots from that angle. Shot at around 26mm. Very little PP.

Ahh... now that's what I like to see!!! :D

Know all three cars well... and will be seeing and photographing them all (I expect) at the GT Nationals in Adelaide in a few weeks time.

Of the shots posted, I also like the third image the most... the mono treatment suits the subject matter and location well. First one is spoiled by the dull (uninteresting) sky and crane. I do like composition of 2, 4 & 5, however I'm finding the colours (especially in relation to the two non-blue cars) to be a little off/inconsistent... making it hard to tell what the true colour is, for those who don't know the cars.

As for the member who wanted the aerials to be put down... they don't go down!!!

Cheers

G'day Paul

You're right on all counts. The boys are looking forward to heading over to Adelaide for the GT nationals. Wish I had the time to go. Would've liked to have spent more time for the outside shots, but we only had about 20 minutes before it bucketed down. And you're spot on with regards to the colours. I shot with a neutral picture control. I didn't do much PP for jpeg conversions, but what I did do was select a vivid picture control in NX. This skewed the colours of the orange and red cars and bought them pretty close to each other. I found choosing the standard picture control was a good, quick and dirty tradeoff for sharpness and colour accuracy.

Cheers

Number 2 and 3 do it for me. Love the concept of the black and white, and think the angle highlights the cars featires and lines well. Also number two works with the reflections in the water on the ground. Nice work. The background in the shed I think also helps and fits the theme of the cars very well.

Nice work
