Lightning in Newtown tonight

Out for a walk in Newtown with my camera class and there was a storm brewing when I got to this park. This was probably the best of them after some post as the original is too dark. Post done on my crappy laptop so it may still be!

nice picture, you have done well to capture the lightning, any chance of wrangling some more light out of it? it seems a little dark.

That looks distinctly like the park in newtown with the church and cemetery in it :D

I saw the storm come thru, unfortunately i was in between places and driving and did not have a camera....

Thank you both.

That is exactly the park, we went into the church area afterwards to try some things in there, though for me it was really too dark by then, most of my ideas would be better at dusk so I think I shall head back sometime.

I think I will need to wring some more out in post, this is already +2 exposure. It was one of my first shots and I had never done lightning before so I was being last and just shooting Apeture priority, giving me 6-10s shots. This strike literally went as I hit the button, so it affected the metering and I only got about 1s. In the original, aside from the strike the rest is pretty much black, so I expect I am going to wind up with some noise issues, but with some work it could come out OK.

Went to manual after that and had a few other good ones I will try to post when I have 5 mins at home to resize etc.

More light would be nice but that's a great bit of lightning! I love the converse colours of the purple skies above the green below, it's striking (pardon the pun) and would be even more so if brighter. I'd maybe crop the top a little, but still keep some of the darker sky - just enough to balance it a bit. You were lucky to grab this - I've not had a storm since getting my dslr but have tried to capture lightning on my compact before and all I could do was click endless shots of blackness on 'continuous' and select out of them the one or two with some electricity happening! That's a brilliant spread of lightning, it almost mimics the trees beneath with it's main vertical 'trunk' and branches.
