Picture of the Week 31.03.09

Vigorous discussion of the images and techniques is welcome and encouraged. Criticism of any mod for their choice is not. Picture of the Week 31.03.09

Postby Geoff on Tue Mar 31, 2009 1:35 pm

This week there's been a small increase in the number of image posts, so it would seem to me.
I've spent about the last 40 minutes going through and trying to pick one.

I have chosen this image by Big V - the contrast between what's happening in the sky (over quite a lengthy period of time) and the foreground is fantastic. To me, this photo is quite mesmorising and 'out of the ordinary'! Well done Big V!

Thanks Geoff- this is something I have been working towards for a long time now. It is fitting that I was able to achieve this result on the same night as Earth Hour. In the past the environment has worked against me getting such a long exposure, dew, rising moon, turbulent atmosphere, cloud etc etc. Finally I had pefect conditions and was able to enjoy those with some fellow dedicated astronomers - making the end result just that a bit more special for me.
