Wedding Dilemma

I am faced with a dilemma for getting a photographer for my own wedding.

Given that I am generally the one behind the lenses, rather than in front of them as I will be this time. I have never done any professional wedding work, mostly friends and relatives that know I am a keen photographer.

Finding a photographer is proving to be almost impossible. Most photographers are looking to sell complete packages including albums, rather than a disc or memory card with just the RAW + JPEG images.

I am getting married in a very small ceremony on a Yacht at Lake Macquarie on Thursday 14 May 2009 at 3.30pm. If anyone has any suggestions on how I will find a photographer for my wedding they will be greatly appreciated.

Have a talk to Jonothan (jdear on this forum) He did my daughter's wedding in New Zealand, and I was most pleased. So was my daughter.

Hi Darryl,

I had exactly the same problem myself in January with my son's wedding.

I hired a pro friend of mine who took excellent shots, but being a wedding shooter myself and after great complaint from she who is occasionally obeyed I set up some of my own shots and took them myself.

My friend was not concerned in the least at me also shooting even with his set ups from a different angle. And guess what his shots turned out great as did mine, I had a great day enjoying what I do and had a pro there to back me up and get the shots that obviously I couldn't.

As long as you are up front with the photog I'd suggest a more than capable member will help you out from the forum and perhaps allow you to take some shots yourself. Speaking from my own viewpoint it really did help me to more fully enjoy the day as did the rest of my family..... As I was able to take the shots that I wanted and being the father of the groom I would have really just been hanging around without much "officially" to do anyway.

i think thats pretty common practice. they used to keep the negs for 7 years or sopmethign like that
