A Rather late POTW 16/04/2009

Postby MHD on Thu Apr 16, 2009 6:50 am

A belated and rather Jetlagged POTW! Some nice images there, I liked the HDR work by Biggery but I could not go past Stubbsy's shot of the oft photographed big house:

The subject of so many photos, so many of them bad :) This image is a lesson in composition! Foreground leading nicely into the subject... and the BW treatment works well.

Nice choice Scott - and well done Peter! as Scott said the composition makes these standout against so many other OH shots.

as MHD said, this is definitely a lesson in composition, excellent work and a great PP job to boot. Well done Peter, I hope you all had a great day out, I was peeved I could not make it myself!

Damn I'm sorry we missed the walk.
Great POV Stubbsy. How did you get rid of all the people?

I thought the same thing myself, it looks almost HDRish, to coin a new word. Well done Stubbsy, nice image with great lines.

Wow - thanks Scott. I just logged in and discovered this.

To those who asked - there's no HDR, in fact apart from the composition the original shot is not much - it's the PP that makes it pop IMHO. It was taken very early on the way to the meet at 7:50 am (and I just noticed my camera is still on daylight saving so the EXIF is wrong  ) hence why there are no people. I was standing on the seating to get more elevation. Here's the original before PP:

Thanks Peter. Nicely exposed. Intuitively it looks like there is too much dynamic range for the sensor...

Nice; it's got the lot: composition, sharpness, contrast etc. Nice to see the original too.

No worries Peter :)

I guess what grabbed me was that it was a picture of a subject literally shot to death... but this one I liked :)
