Picture Of The Week

Each week, one of the moderators or administrators selects an image that, for whatever reason, catches their eye. Please feel free to add your comments here. Vigorous discussion of the images and techniques is welcome and encouraged. Criticism of any mod for their choice is not. Please note that this is "Picture of the Week"; do not confuse that with "best picture of the week", which is a concept of which we have no understanding.

Picture Of The Week

Postby gstark on Mon Feb 28, 2005 7:35 am

Each week one of the moderators will select an image that will become our Picture Of The Week.

The selection criteria are very simple: whatever takes that moderator's fancy.

Please feel free to discuss the image, and whether or not you agree with the moderator's selection, within this section. You are not free to discuss the selection process, which is exactly as noted above: whatever takes that moderator's fancy.

Selection of any image as PotW does not suggest that it was the best image, technically or otherwise, posted during any particular period. It implies - and it means - nothing more that a moderator liked that photo the most, this week, for whatever reason.

If you do happen to like the moderator's selection, that's great, say so, and say why. And i you don't like the moderator's selection, that is fine too: say so, and and tell us why.

And then move on.

Whining and carping about the selection not meeting your approval is neither permitted nor relevant - it is not your selection for PotW, and your approval, per se, is not required.

You comments, however, are valued and always welcome!

If you've missed an image and / or a previous Picture Of The Week thread no has the image embedded, an archive of all previous Pictures Of The Week can be found at the following link:

Dean,

Any and all of the above.

If an image is posted by a member and referred to within these forums, it's basically fair game.

Great idea to choose it! Maybe there should be a kind of a gallery like 1 week, 2 week and one may see all the pictures that won during a certain period of time..

There are no nominees as such.

Each of the forum's moderators and key members take a turn to make the selection, based upon the criteria of whatever image they choose that takes their fancy. We also, on a regular basis, invite members to choose an image.

There is no restriction set for any basis of choice; the current selector is free to determine their choice for whatever reason they see fit.

You need to be careful to understand that the selection is one of simply "picture of the week". That is to say that it's not necessarily a "best" picture award; sometimes we may see an image with potential and that is good. Other times an image might be chosen that proves to be a controversial choice, and that, too is good.

If you just go through this section of the forum, you will find links to every selection, along with the reasons, and the ensuing discussion.

Maybe it would be nice to make the first post go through a captcha as well. Just to slow some people down.
