C&C requested - Panorama at KurnellHi Everyone,
So I've been working on my pano rig, and am gettin a lot more comfortable with it now. do you think lots (6 or 10 stops i 'm thinking) of ND filter would improve this image? you know, help make the water smooth, smokey and shiny? What else could i do to improve it? please be constructive! Last edited by photoaffinity on Mon May 18, 2009 7:52 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Re: C&C requested - Panorama at KurnellI think we should allow more than 800 pixels for panos.
An 3:2 image at 800 wide would be 533 high and 426,400 pixels in total This image is 500 x 112 (could be about 800 x 180 at max guidelines) and just 56,000 pixels. An 800x180 would be just 144,000. In short, it looks like it needs more real estate Michael
Re: C&C requested - Panorama at Kurnell
if you click on it you can see it at 1050 high, about 1/4 of original size
Re: C&C requested - Panorama at Kurnell
Michael, Nice thought, but two problems: many users still have smaller monitors, and the forum template doesn't go any wider. I've tried. It's very easy to just embed a link to a larger sized version of the image, and those who wish to, may click through. g.

Re: C&C requested - Panorama at Kurnell
imo probably not, I have a 8ND and recently whening using it at Bare island I found it was a struggle to get longer shutters required for 'silky water' when the sun was up there around 9-10am. I think the sharp crisp approach was the right one here jon. Incidently, you can see Bare island from your shot Maybe getting there a bit earlier my be of help, even sunrise? but that hurts... its a fair drive around to that point. Did you get around to the 'seaside' of Kurnell? there are some nice walks around there from memory, I have not been there for years... Also, you can pickup the stitching seam leading from Bare island to the foreground of the picture. It is quite difficult to stitch panos with waves in the foreground. hth.
I am a big fan of the 800px, there is nothing worse then browsing a forum and popping out half a dozen threads into tabs to have it lockup with a couple of the posts with 4 odd 300 Kb each - especially when on a laptop with wireless speed.

No amount of processing will fix bad composition - trust me i have tried.
Re: C&C requested - Panorama at Kurnell
Thanks for the input, I think i might head out a little earlier next time and actually go with the express intent of making images, rather than a "let's go for a walk and bring the camera" type trip. maybe a good plan to get there at about 6 one day, and aim for a low tide, shoot over the still water with a ND filter as the sun rises. This time we got to the heads and turned back, we walked from up around the caltex pier, along the water line. it's a great spot round that way, very tempting to bring a rod and reel and waste a few hours chasing mildly poisoned fish one morning
Re: C&C requested - Panorama at KurnellI think that this shot would be improved by some recovery of the sky on the left. The sky to the right is great.
