STORM WHISTLE PURCHSE

Postby Matt. K on Mon May 25, 2009 7:16 pm

Now that the Aussi dollar has made some gains on the Yankee dollar it may be a good time to rethink the purchase of the storm whistles...http://www.stormwhistles.com/

They cost $5.50 US which is about $7.20 and with postage could end up at around $9 or $10 Aust. If you are interested in purchasing one of these express your interest in this thread. If you put your name down on last years thread please indicate here again. Further...is anyone going to the States in the next 4 or 5 weeks and be willing to courier a bag of whistles back to Aussiland?

Is there a Chinese company making imitation or replica storm whistle for 50 cents each?   :D :D
Regards

Matt,
I'm OS at the moment, and will be in the States in July.
My backpack is pretty full already, but I could help out bringing them back to Melb. I'll have a look for them in stores to see how much space 50 or 100 of these will take up!

I'm wondering what questions customs will ask me though! I could explain away 10, but perhaps not 100?!
Anyone have any ideas if this would be an issue?

We would only require about 20. You could tell customs they were for a cheer squad in a junior football club. :D :D :D I'd be happy to send you the purchase price if you require. PM me if you need any further info.

Cheers

Matt

No Worries Matt.

From memory the last "yes please" list would have gone to 50+

Happy to help out. My thoughts were that if it was 50 or more, then the post should have only added $1 or so to each.

But then I haven't checked pricing.

I'm in the UK for the next three or so weeks, so lets see how the list grows in the mean time.

Going to ask something silly here - but besides being a very loud whistle, I don't see the connection to photography. Or is it a case of, there isnt one?

I'd put something witty here, but I just can't think of anything....

It has multiple uses...getting the attention of kids and dogs when doing portraits. Frightening birds from trees in order to photograph flight. As a distress signal when doing night photography and getting assaulted by thieves who want your camera...as a signal if you get lost in the woods or seperated from your trekking party. As a distress signal if you fall into the surf when photographing the rocks (they work in water). As a tool to mess up someones football match or spoil someones wedding ceremony. Piss off your neighbours because their dog is barking all night. Use as a signal to wife that you are hungry or require some other attention. Sneak up behind deaf people and blow real hard to see if they are really deaf. Just wear as an ornament or fashion statement. Blow during the opera just to show disapproval of the performance. Take to parliment house and make audible protest.

Anybody want to expand this list? :D :D :D
