Time Snap - This weekendIt's been a while since we had one of these ... and with this coming weekend being the Queen's Birthday weekend, what better excuse for a timesnap ?
So I give you the DSLRUsers.com Queens' Birthday Timesnap. Eligibility is from 5pm Friday June 5 till midnight, Monday June 8. The topic is anything that you believe is relevant to a queen's birthday. No prizes, this is just for fun. Who knows? I may even spring a timesnap within the timesnap, just for giggles. g.

Re: Time Snap - This weekendHappy Bday Queen Victoria!
Correction! I thought the queen had a victoria in her name. Even then she's still the queen of Victoria. My attempt at light painting. Unfortunately there was too much ambient in the form of a huge 1000W downlight in the garage which I couldn't switch off. At ISO 100 I could get slight underexposure at 10 seconds and f22. I popped a snooted 430EX two times on each side. Colour cast is the ambient leaking through.
Re: Time Snap - This weekendMany happy returns Elizabeth Regina.
Taken at Bare Island, La Perouse at a depth of around 18 metres. Some 6 minutes after I took that shot, the leak detector in my housing started flashing, indicating there was water in the housing. I signaled to my buddy it was time to abort the dive. He spotted the flashing light and knew I was in a hurry. I was at the surface in around 5 minutes (but still managed a shortened safety stop at 5 metres). I got back to the car and was relieved that only a small amount of water had made it in and the camera and lens were completely dry. The sanitary napkin in the housing had taken up some water and there were a couple of mL of water flowing under the leak detector. Now I have to determine where the housing is leaking. Re: Time Snap - This weekendVery nice shot Andrew. Fingers crossed that housing is ok...

Re: Time Snap - This weekendThanks, Cameron. I know the housing isn't OK (or it wouldn't have leaked). I'm just hopeful I can confirm the source of the leak and get it repaired. I'll probably take it on a dive tomorrow, minus the camera, and see if I can reproduce the leak.
Re: Time Snap - This weekendGreat shot Andrew. I hope your housing is not too incontinent BTW, the old regina was born on the 21st April but I suppose we have enough holidays in April as it is

Re: Time Snap - This weekendScary story Andrew! What is the subject of your photo? Some sort of macro sea life?
Re: Time Snap - This weekendSurenj, it's a 1:1 macro of the central disc of a sea star:
Re: Time Snap - This weekendAndrew that picture is awesome!! I would have never guessed.
Photoaffinity nice timing! Did you take the photo with right hand while left held the chip? Where is the fill light coming from? Sand?
Re: Time Snap - This weekendNo Queen, but it is a princess apparently.

Re: Time Snap - This weekend
thanks it took a few tries, as the 5d mk ii only gets 3.9fps, not fast enough to catch a bird catching a chip every time. Yep spot on, camera in right hand, battery grip and 24/105 IS attached (gets real heavy after a few minutes!) taken at f11, 1/1250, iso1600, using servo AF. the fill light is coming from the mid afternoon sun reflected off the paper and chips that were on my lap to protect them from the birds.
Re: Time Snap - This weekendJust for something novel, I thought I'd submit an image for this.
It's not actually of a queen, but it was taken in Queensland!!! The statue is of Florence Nightingale, but I thought it fit the topic, as it looks a lot like some old statues of Queen Victoria or even Queen Adelaide. All I've done is levels, vignette and convert to grayscale. I hope that's OK? Please go easy as it's my first image submission to the site apart from some camera gear photos. Cheers Simon Grounds

Re: Time Snap - This weekendThere I was stretching my brain cells to the max as to shooting something appropriate for the Queen’s birthday. Looked up and saw this out of the window. . .

Re: Time Snap - This weekendQueen of the jungle is about as close as I can come to a connection to the Queen's birthday weekend for this one...
Cheers What's another word for "thesaurus"?

Re: Time Snap - This weekendAnd here is the delightfully sweet Queen Vittoria, being shown respect by her most loyal subjects in a cafe in Geringong, yesterday afternoon.

Re: Time Snap - This weekendNewcastle's Queens Wharf panorama. Click on image for a larger version.
This is made up of 12 stitched images but I cropped the ends so that is doesn't get to wide on the web as you don't really get a good feel for how much detail there really is. PTgui was used for the stitching. cheers, André Photography, as a powerful medium of expression and communications, offers an infinite variety of perception, interpretation and execution. Ansel Adams

Re: Time Snap - This weekendSuperb André - nicely stitched and well composed. You nailed the light too. All that detracts for me is the giant penis at the wharf blocking the cathedral. Not a lot we can do about that though.

Re: Time Snap - This weekendBrilliant Andre! Love the panorama.
Re: Time Snap - This weekendI am going to attempt to sneak one last one in...
I was hoping to get another chance to have a look for another picture but I didnt end up with any time to go shoot again. PS: I will redo the pano and fix the blend lines + UFO when I get a bit of time but the link will be the same. Last edited by aim54x on Tue Jun 09, 2009 12:15 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Re: Time Snap - This weekend
Maybe we should, considering that there were more responses than some of the competitions in the past. Those had prizes too!
