Something I put together from my recent charity nude shoots - I'd love to hear what you think... !!!

Please respect the models in your comments - they do read them...

What, you think it's a Dude Niptych?

None of them seem to be spooning, so maybe you were thinking of a different Spooner?

John

I really like what you've done here - the exposure and tonality work well and there's just enough detail for interest. I think though I'd have preferred them as two separate images.

Love this lighting. Does anyone know to how to make the light fall off so quickly and not spillover to the background? Gridded softbox or background being far away??

John, I’m going to go against the general concensus after looking at this image over and over.

As a diptych I feel that there is far too much happening to give the whole image coherence. I do not see one image but two in the one. If both pics had been framed and then joined in the middle, the diptych would have had much more impact and suited the title more.

The lighting, although good, is not controlled enough for the image complexity and a bas relief would add much more impact. The right hand image has a nice feel to it except (and this is a personal thing) the tatoo.

So, my vote goes, not for the whole image but for the right hand side only.

I posted them as 2 separate images and barely anyone commented :-)

This seems to have attracted more attention :-)

I wouldn't take it personally! It's just chance I think. Sometimes it's easy to overlook new posts. I have had posts which had one response to up to ten. One strategy is to post in another forum if you get nothing out of one.

I have had many that have had under 5 responses...sometimes people just miss them I guess, or have nothing to say.

I am sure that nude pics are everybody's taste, hence the lack of comments. When I first saw it I thought it was some kind of orgy and I was too embarrased to make any comments.
Personally, I find it interesting but a bit contrived in a panorama format. It is a very good black and white picture of perhaps a group of actors or dancers performing.

I definitely don't take it personally surenj... I post in 5-6 different places and am constantly amazed at the variety of reactions I get...

What's most important to me is the reactions that I get from the models / subjects and in the main they are very complimentary... They focus on the intent of the art and the part that they played in it rather than the technicalities of the photography and whether the models have been eating enough...

nice work

I have had a number of looks at it .....always looking at something different and appreciating the subtleties in tone, models positioning, body types and overall feel of the image.

B&W..got to love it!

The lighting effects and body language paint the picture here... I've looked at this image for a few moments, and its edged into my head... i find that lighting is critical in these types of images!!!

Nice "body" of work you've got there Leek. :cough: Had a quick look at your other images as well and found this one stands out alot. Was it intentional that everyone's heads were in shadow? I think it actually enhances the image in either case - maintains the anonymity of the models and gets us to focus on their form and arrangement. I don't normally like these type of photos but this one's really good.

Thanks for all the great comments guys...

As I think I said earlier (somewhere) - this is two consecutive images placed on a black background together... The male model in the middle tried not to move while all the others reversed their polarity. The model on the left is also male and the other 3 (by process of elimination) female...

The lighting on the 2 shots was fairly simple...
1 SB-800 on TTL left with white shoot thru umbrella about 3 feet off the floor
1 SB-800 on TTL right with silver reflector umbrella about 3 feet off the floor

Auto mode... 1/250 @ f4 or 4.5

Shot on the top floor of The World Bar in Kings Cross... An exhibition of the works and those of other photographers will be held there soon in aid of the charity - The Sydney Street Choir...
Cheers, John
