The second Saturday of an even numbered month is iminent so it's time for our next regular forum 2x2 meet. This time it will be a late afternoon/early evening meet on Saturday 13th June 2009 taking in the Vivid//Sydney displays including the Fire/Water event featuring fire sculptures, light installations, music, floating lantern workshops and the dramatic burning of the Three Bees ship in Campbells Cove. This is the the sole weekend that the Fire/Water event is on and as a bonus the other events ( Lighting the Sails and Light Walk) are also in operation. Kick off will be at Observatory Hill around 4:30 pm so we can get some sunset images in before heading to Capmbells Cove in the Rocks for the Fire/Water event and then continue on for the Light Walk. And a thank you to Cameron (aim54x) for spotting these events in the first place. Attending so far:Stubbsy Alpha_7 + friends Matt. K biggerry sheepie surenj Possibles: photoaffinity, aim54x, leek Apart from meeting at Observatory Hill for sunset the plan is to be at Campbells Cove between 6 and 6:30 pm for the burning and "sinking" of the Three Bees. Depending on how interesting that is we'll be off sometime after that on the light walk towards the Opera House. The current forecast is for "Mostly fine. Cloud increasing." so we should get a good sunset What to bring?- A tripod if you have one
- Warm clothes including gloves and a beanie if you have them (the temperature will be heading down towards 6 degrees overnight)
- Water
- A flashlight could be useful
Food - we'll wing this on the night, but at some stage we'll grab a bite to eat. If I don't have your mobile number please get in touch with me by PM

Thanks Peter, it is a shame that I wont be able to go to this 2x2 (sorry I really would love to go) as I have work commitments and an honours thesis to hand in on the 15th. I am actually looking at the prospect of missing all of the Vivid Sydney events altogether, which I am less than happy about.
Have fun everyone and be sure to take and show off many, many pictures. If you do a search, biggerry already has some posted!

We would love to go, but the timing is dodgy. We have a regular family get together at Orange for lunch Saturday. We generally get back to WF about 4:00. Getting to the city by 4:30 is more than slightly iffy.

I want to go! I guess you guys will be around for a while, if I am finished with my thesis then I shall be working (out at Macarthur), I may try to rendezvous with you later on (ie after work or when I leave the lab - so about 7-7.30ish) if you think you will still be around.

Very tempting... I was there last night, but wouldn't mind another attempt when I don't forget my tripod... Luckily the hi-ISO capabilities of the D700 came to the rescue so I got some decent shots anyway, but it would be interesting to see what a difference a tripod can make...

Count me in. Are we grabbing a bite afterwards?
I suppose I will have to find my gloves. I have a feeling it's going to be freezing and/or windy.

Could you put me down as a possible? I'd like to try to get out. The cold weather doesn't help though.

Just negotiated with the wife, and I'll definitely be there... looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and some new ones too Just realised that I don't have a RRS L-Plate for my D700 yet, so might have to rediscover the D200 on my tripod...

thanks heaps for organising this Peter - although it's disapponting that's the best a city of Sydney's status can do (I think Adelaide does it better!) it was still great to get out and catch up with everyone. Hope there's some good pics from people

I'm glad that I'm not the only one who thinks that this is a totally overrated piece of .... That said, thanx Peter, and yes, it was good to get out in the cold - which I admit I was feeling - and catch with with everyone.
