Re: Mama Don't take..I have to admit that I have never used Kodachrome....I guess it will be in that pile of films that i will never be able to experience....
*must remember to get some Velvia and Portia to try* Cameron

Re: Mama Don't take..
Buy a bar fridge. Get pro-bricks of Velvia & Provia. Make friends with E-6 processor. Use, develop, scan and repeat. Buy a second bar fridge, fill with bricks of Tri-X, T-Max, FP4 & Delta. Buy some chemicals. Shoot, develop, scan and repeat. Actually, following on from the FE thread, is it time for another film only mini-meet? Regards, Patrick
Two or three lights, any lens on a light-tight box are sufficient for the realisation of the most convincing image. Man Ray 1935. Our mug is smug
Re: Mama Don't take..
That is assuming I have a scanner....
i would be up for this! Cameron

Re: Mama Don't take..
No, it's not. It is assuming you have access to scanning services. Regards, Patrick

Re: Mama Don't take..Scanning services are expensive, especially if you shoot a lot of film....I added another film camera to my kit today....a DIY pinhole http://www.sharan-camera.com/, which my friend got me from her trip to London. I am becoming very well equipped for a film only mini meet...

Re: Mama Don't take..Anyone using kodachrome in Aus?
Or, know a lab who can process this slides in Aus? I'd like to try a roll or two as a last respect ...
Re: Mama Don't take..
Apparently Kansas Lab is World's Last Kodachrome Processor
Re: Mama Don't take..That is indeed sad news but I guess was going to happen at some time.
I haven't used Kodachrome since I last used my film cameras (probably 8 years). I used it occasionally before 1980 and then very regularly from 1980 until the late 90's. The first roll of colour film I used underwater was Kodachrome 64. Here's an example: Here's a shot from 1984: I still have a few rolls in the fridge - which have been there since around 2000. I loved that film.
Re: Mama Don't take..Andrew,
To use a ISO 64 film underwater, you must have had to blind the shark with flash light? Or did you use f1.4?
Re: Mama Don't take..
Surenj, it was probably more of the former. The 35mm lens on my Nikonos was an f/2.5 but I rarely opened it more than f/8. I don't remember the settings for that shark shot (oh how we rely on Exif these days) but I suspect it was f/11 or f/8. It was only a small shark (not much more than a metre) and would have been less than a metre from the camera/strobe. The guide number of the strobe would have required f/8 at 1 metre and ISO 64.
Re: Mama Don't take..I asked the people on the Kodak stand at PMA and they took some time to tell me that there was a mob in Brisbane that processes Kodachrome.
Extrafilm was the business name supplied. Have yet to look them up. I still have one old roll left (35mm 64asa) in the fridge. I may have to use it sooner rather than later. Unless you want it Cam. It is old and may not be worth the effort. Regards Colin

Re: Mama Don't take..
While they seem to do a lot of different things, Kodachrome is not listed on there website AFAICS. The accepted wisdom is that the people in Kansas mentioned earlier in the thread are the only place in the world to offer this service, and I very much doubt that there'd be a sufficient market here in Oz to provide this in this way. Kodak used to have their own lab in Melbourne, btw, but that was closed down quite some time back. Perhaps they were thinking in terms of Ektachrome processing, or perhaps Extrafilm acts as a collecting house and on-forwards the films to Kansas? g.

Re: Mama Don't take..Yes I noticed that when I looked them up last night.
Not to worry, I may even give them a nudge to see what they will do. Regards Colin
