Each week, one of the moderators or administrators selects an image that, for whatever reason, catches their eye. Please feel free to add your comments here. Vigorous discussion of the images and techniques is welcome and encouraged. Criticism of any mod for their choice is not. Please note that this is "Picture of the Week"; do not confuse that with "best picture of the week", which is a concept of which we have no understanding.

One of the more pleasurable, but challenging tasks I have to undertake has come my way again. There were a number of fine images that caught my eye in the last week, but I kept coming back to the images in THIS post by DebT. My problem was that I coudln't decide which of the images was "the one" that I'd choose as Picture of the Week. Eventually I decided that, as Deb suggests in her post, these 3 images belong together so this week it's three pictures of the week. Congratulations Deb. So why these images? They're sharp, well exposed and the eye contact engages the viewer. Better, the angle of the shot gives a strong feel the hippo is coming straight at us. My only niggle is I'd have liked them a touch wider (so go back and try again Deb ) On the plus side the tight crop means we can pretend the subject is in the wild rather than captive in a zoo.

Great Hippo shots Deb congratulations and well chosen Peter. (I couldn't help but think of the classic and much loved "Hippo Eats Dwarf" story which you can read here Even Karl Pilkington related it in one of the podcasts. Of course it isn't true)

Great choice Stubbsy! It is a very nice series that you cannot pick to have been taken in a zoo.
