Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent. Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature. Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread. My first PostHi everyone,
Just joined this forum today and thought I try my first post. I took this one last year in East Timor, I really like the smoke, but am not sure about the rest. Is it to dark and is the horizontal line to distracting??? Had to crop it a bit too, left to much room on top of his head again . "Old school" (Olympus OM 1&2SP )
Re: My first PostLove it! You could perhaps increase the contrast just on the smoke with a luminosity mask. BTW welcome to the forum.
Re: My first PostCraig, welcome to the forum and what a striking image to start with. I don't find personally any distractions in the image except I would like to see his lips, but in many ways with a candid shot like this you take the hand you are dealt. Like it.

Re: My first PostIt comes across as a candid shot. The smoke makes it interesting "...perhaps increase the contrast just on the smoke with a luminosity mask..." may improve the image. go ahead and try ans see if you are happy with the results. By the way, welcome to dSLr.
Re: My first PostWelcome
Great shot, looks a tiny bit dark to me and I agree about the smoke contrast. Craig

Re: My first PostI to like this shot. As captured it’s fine. Further PP is discretional and unlike Glen the lips of a man are not my first thought
Also, welcome and hope to see a lot more pics from you Craig. Chris

Re: My first PostWelcome aboard....I would be very happy with that image...I agree with the view that PP on this image is discretionary as it is already very powerful...Love that smoke

Re: My first PostCraig
Welcome to the forum. Nice to see you here. Great first post...one of the more unusual images we have had for awhile. I like the image but I agree with a previous poster I'd also like to see the smoke a little lighter, See if you can make it glow. That you should keep you busy for a few days. Look forward to seeing more of your work as you enhance your skills. Keep posting. Regards

Re: My first PostThanks for all your replies and tips, I will try and make that smoke stand out a bit more.
