Re: It’s officialAND the new 70-200mm VR...lets see if this is better for FX! My 70-200mm is still very new so I dont think I will be upgrading to any of the new releases just yet.

Re: It’s officialIs this likely to take the D300 price point? Its wishfull thinking but I am hoping its not like the D3/D3x pricing approach.

Re: It’s officialVery good. Looks like HD video is going to be the norm from here on in (I wonder when it will get into the "pro" bodies, if ever). Not enough of an upgrade to make existing D300 users (like me) want to buy it, but looks like a nice bit of kit anyway.
Re: It’s officialI know this is a camera forum, but I was expecting this to be about M.S. return to F1 for Ferrari.
Slightly more on topic, I'd love the Video to be an option extra, so you can have it disable or not included at all, and pay less for the body. Oooooh, new 70-200 2.8 Optmised for FX. Now I'm interested. Last edited by Alpha_7 on Thu Jul 30, 2009 4:05 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Re: It’s official
The exact thought crossed my mind as I opened the thread. Of course, I feel for poor Felipe and wonder what his future will be. Perhaps he can sub for the Hamster.

In which case, the older D300 is the body for you. g.

Re: It’s officialI wonder if the body will be exactly the same as the D300 with all the same buttons in the same places. i.e. I wonder if it will fit into my D300 housing.

Re: It’s officialHe's have to grow his hair out! Yeah I hope Massa makes a full recovery, but I can't blame him if he doesn't come back to F1. You don't get closers calls then that IMO, I still can't wrap my head around how /why the spring was still bouncing when Massa hit it.
Re: It’s official
yes...in all its 10mp CCD glory. lol the d3000 should cease to exist and they should drop the price of the d5000 by $300 odd. EM1 l 7.5 l 12-40 l 14 l 17 l 25 l 45 l 60 l 75 l AW1 l V3

Re: It’s officialWe now have the official Nikon Oz press releases for the new toys.
The D3000 has in built tutorials and will carry an RRP of $999.00 (D3000 + 18-55mmVR) or $1,299.00 (D3000 + 18-55mmVR + 55-200mmVR). The D300S will retail at RRP $3,299.00 (Body only). Both will be available from early September. 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR is available from early September and the AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR's availability is still to be confirmed. Pricing still to be confirmed. g.

Re: It’s official
In terms of people upgrading from the D300 to the D300S? I'm not so sure that that's a valid or worthwhile upgrade path. And as an observation, the D300S's RRP is more than our Poon price for the D700, and that makes for some interesting questions to be asked by those who are in the market place for a new body: FF, or video? And given these new releases, how long till we see some new D700 variants? D700S with HD video? Or the D700X with the hi-res sensor, and HD video? Ladeeeezzzze and Gennelmen, puhleeeeze place your bets now; the tables are open! g.

Re: It’s officialVery interesting...
Is 24fps too jerky to be useful?
Re: It’s official
24fps used to be the standard for all movies. Not sure if it has changed in recent years The "New" 18-200 seems to be the old one with a lock button added to stop lens creep during transport. A shame it won't cope while taking a photo below you. D300s drool. examines bank account. Sigh. 70-200 drool. examines bank account. Sigh. Examines girlfriend's bank account. SIGH. Re: It’s officialI am hoping for a D700X in time for my budget melting trip to NY and B+H - that way I won't need to upgrade my camcorder as well as my DSLR - I will be saving money if they do the D700 with HD video!

Re: It’s officialECS think the price for the new 70-200/2.8 is likely to be around $3200 and possibly as high as $3500. that is just outrageous.

Re: It’s official
eek!, I was thinking more along the lines of having a sneaky look into the missus bank account, shes sooo much better at saving then me.... I really would love to get a D300s, even a D300 but must resist that upgrade bandwagon, plus I think i would not get the D300 purely on the feel of the shutter button, after playing with Cam's a couple of times it is significantly different to the D80 in terms of feel and pressure required....all that said if soemone stuffed a D300 in my face I would not say no gerry's photography journey

Re: It’s official
Gary, I was thinking that any existing new D300 stock may hit clearance prices when the D300s arrives. Possibly a bit optimistic. I agree that there probably won't be many (or maybe any) people upgrading from D300 to D300s. Greg - - - - D200 etc

Re: It’s officialSo if I am forced to replace my D200, do I stick with the D300, or do I pay extra for the features the D300s offer?
I imagine the D300 is a great camera, and I don't think I would use movie mode, though once you have it, it might become addictive. Not sure whether the other features warrant the extra spend - particularly when the D300 can be obtained for so much less. Share what you know, learn what you don't.

Re: It’s official
If there was a firmware update for the D300 to get it closer to the D300s then I am sure the D300 would be a no brainer for you. Something tells me that the D300 will be around for a while yet...even after the D300s becomes available. Cameron
