My new camera - the Voigtlander Perkeo 1

I received an unexpected package in the mail today - a late birthday present from my Dad... he bought this camera in Germany with his King's shilling while doing National Service in the 1950s. I used it as a teen and it was really great to see it again...





It seems to be in reasonable shape... I just can't quite remember / figure out how the shutter speed control works... I'm sure Google will find something on it...
Where can I get some 120 film these days? I haven't bought film for 9 years...

AH... I get your drift... I told you it was a long time since I'd bought film...

I'd be happy with anything, but probably colour - I've never shot slide in my life... I think it might take a few rolls of 12 to get the measure of this beast...

I prefer VanBar as they have a really good range of film....but I am not sure how easy colour 120 will be to find I have only really seen slide 120 (Velvia!!!)

I have used this and that from ebay before. For example, the latter link shows Fuji Pro160C 120 film which is a lovely colour negative film, really suitable for portraits.

Your biggest issue, I believe, will be finding a C-41 developing place that will do 120.

Wonderful acquisition.

But .... does this one want 120 or 620 filum? I suspect that you're going to be wanting the older 620 format, which is NLA.

There are two problems ... the spindles are different from 120, and you may need to hunt around your local hock shoppery to see if you can find some old box brownies. Then you'll need to convert rolls of 120 into 620 which will involve a change bag and a little bit of time on your part.

120 stock should be relatively easy to find, and development services not too hard either. Or DIY.

Shutter mechanism ... there's a trigger lever on the side of the lens. You pull that to cock the shutter. That looks to be the small round thing sticking out, in the second image, on the rh side, above the pc(flash sync) socket. On the lh side of the lens, just around from the top, we see a longish flat lever. That should be the shutter release. Shutter speeds will be the red pointer at the bottom of the lens, aperture settings at the top.

Sorry for the delay, but thanks for your responses Gary & others - it provided me with all the clues I needed to suss out the shutter mechanism. Seems to work fine, so now to get a fews of fillum to try

I can confirm that it does take 120 film, so hopefully that should be easier than the other option you were describing.
