yet another point and shoot thread

Postby mozzie on Fri Jul 31, 2009 9:08 am

Hi

I was trying to look through (the numerous) old thread about point and shoots but I am clearly a bit daft. Anyways my dad lovingly managed to lose my Sony Cybershot of many years which I adored. I thought for a while that I could get away with not needing one but i dont think that will work.

Basically what I am after is something thats tough : I am wanting to take up abseiling and hoping to do some Canyoning too. So something that can take a little beating and maybe some splashes.

Tech spec wise - I am not expecting miracles so i'd b happy with something that's roughly equivalent to the Sony (maybe a weee bit better)

and finally and most importantly price - currently thinking $200-$300 range .

Suggestions would be Loved

I don't think there's anything in modern P&S cameras that will compare with your older Sony. They were sensational cameras with wonderful lens. Sadly I think the newer Sony's aren't much chop. I imagine most Canon P&S cameras will do a good job. Panasonic is also a good brand. My son bought a Panasonic TZ5 ($250 AUD from Amazon) earlier this year and couldn't be happier with it.

Check the DPReview Waterproof Camera Group test

They seem to be getting better, and there is more to choose from these days...
