Portraits (NSFW)Some portraits from last weekend.
C&C welcome. #1 - Miss Monnie #2 #3 #4 - not really a portrait
Re: Portraits (NSFW)I really like #4, and I disagree. It IS a portrait, and a very good one.
A head shot is simply the most common style of portrait. A portrait is (within this context) a photograph that tells us about a person. This tells me a lot about your subject, possibly more than a head shot would have done. I will certainly recognise her if I see her walking down the street ahead of me Greg

Re: Portraits (NSFW)agree, #4 is easily my favourite aswell. love the bubblegum-ish hi key you used there contrasting with the pumps and the tatts. great shot and well seen. i think you need to do some podiatry-photoshop on her heels though.

Re: Portraits (NSFW)nice work as always, the last is a bit different but very attractive at the same time, it really is a portrait.

Re: Portraits (NSFW)I like the first two, but I feel that there's much more to be taken from what you've posted here, Kevin.
#1: how did you do the B&W conversion? It looks to me like a print from a fogged negative, and as such it, for me, severely lacks contrast. It looks muddy and has no punch. Let's see if we can make this something special; I believe that it has the makings of that. #2: I don't like the hues in this; the bubble gum pink looks (and is) unnatural. I don't think the issue is wb, but the whites of her eyes do have a pink tinge to them. I do love the texture on her face however. I think you need to go back to basics, pull the colour to something better (if you agree with me, of course) but keep the texture. And yes, the last one is a portrait too. g.

Re: Portraits (NSFW)Sorry guys but I disagree: A portrait is a painting, photograph, sculpture, or other artistic representation of a person, in which the face and its expression is predominant.

Re: Portraits (NSFW)The 2# may have benefitted from hard light as it's kinda dark and goth style low key image.... Agree with boosting the contrast in the first one.

Or alternatively, if you look at definitions other than Wikipedia: portrait |ˈpôrtrət; -ˌtrāt| noun 1 a painting, drawing, photograph, or engraving of a person, esp. one depicting only the face or head and shoulders. • a representation or impression of someone or something in language or on film Canon 7D | Canon 350D | G5 | S95 | 24-70mm f2.8L | 50mm f1.8 II | 70-200mm f2.8L USM | 430EX II | Strobist gear
Re: Portraits (NSFW)
For the first, I've switched from Bibble to Lightroom and I'm not yet happy with my BW settings. I've added some lightness to #1 and changed the colour mode on #2. Both a bit better now. It's a big learning curve changing software, but Bibble is dead in the water now so I had to do it. #1 with added contrast #2 depinked This pic of my studio might give you some idea of why I sometimes have colour issues.
