Cannot make it DARN! Will be in Melbourne for a wedding that weekend. Bach Dang is a great restaurant - you guys really know how to pick your restaurants! Try the Lobster sashimi if it's in the budget! You MUST also have the seafood roll!

Hmm this review site doesn't seem to have much good to say about the place
General consensus is that food is good, but overpriced and service worse than terrible.

I wish I could come to both. I will, like Colin, check on my credit availability. I am pretty sure that I will have to choose just one. I will probably tend towards going to the minimeet....

Since the destination is 42km [funny that!] from home, I will also need to investigate whether public transport is viable [and safe]. Otherwise I will have to drive, in which case the vietnamese alcohol will be wasted on me.

Anyone else thinking about taking the public transport route?

:ot: but if anyone is keen on good value hearty Vietnamese food near the city, Bali Stick restaurant in Kensington is a fair call. check it out before it goes out of business! [it's location isn't good enough- multiple restaurants have failed at the same spot]

Greg
I have eaten at the Bach Dang over 20 times. A previous Governor General used to eat there often, his chauffeur waiting around the back in the Rolls Royce. The food has always been excellent and the prices always reasonable. The service can be slow on the odd occasion when they are very busy. I'm confident that all will enjoy the venue. For those who don't wish to drive the venue is about 3 minutes walk from Canley Vale railway station.
By the way.....if any forum member can offer a better suggestion for a venue for the dinner then let Gary know. I'm sure he's open to all suggestions given the time constraints.

Why do you always have the AW when I am away? Or should I ask, why am I always away when you have the AW?

I think I just said I won't be able to attend, which is sad for me. :(

I am constantly wary of review sites.

First of all, you never know who is making the review: what are their tastes, their prejudices? What is their experience base? For instance, most people in Oz haven't the foggiest idea of what good Tex-Mex is like, but the best Tex-Mex eateries in Sydney get a panning. Everyone is an expert.

Or so they'd like to think.

I have eaten there, and the food is great. Service has been acceptable (I've not had cause to complain) and - and this is the important shit - I've been there with a bunch of forum people, which means that a great time was had by all. Every time.

I'm sure Matt will correct me on this if I'm wrong as if! but I seem to recall from prior visits that it's BYO, with Peter bringing along some selections from his cellar.

And you just know that has to be good!
