Ralliart Lancer Lightpainting

my mate set this shoot up for me, i was shooting his evo4 lancer anyway so he got his mate out with his new ralliart lancer. its been good lately lots of interest as i post my pictures up on car forums. i just completeled my website and will advertise that with stickers on mine and my gf's cars aswell as a few mates who have asked for stickers.

got a xy gt replica to do tomorrow night out at mallala if the weather holds off.

i really enjoyed doing this car, white is so easy to lightup. location is sort of ok ,my mate didnt want to travel far as there were a couple of cruises on last night so cops would of been out in force. and cars of the japanese variety are easy targets. so i chose a location about 2km from my house. this spot is near the sub base down at outer harbour and is a dark dead end street.

white is so easy to lightup. location is sort of ok

these are quite nice, the industrial style background with the lights on the last one really adds to the image.

you have quite a nice even lighting on the car, my only gripe would be the roof, I think you really need a softbox on a arm/boom to get it up in the air and project onto the roof, I had the same problem with my limited experience (car and plane), and i was stretched up to the max (any i ain't a little boy either )

The mitsubishu emblem in the second needs lots more light to get it to stand out. In all the images you really have the reflections sorted out, there are now hotspots or obvious lighting reflections, top stuff...

Great work. Those mirrors are a bit hot and the PS job on the number plate is not up to your standard but these can be easily fixed.

Gerry...maybe we can get photoaffinity and his 3m boom into play for car roof...no your not a small boy!

I know nothing about car shots and like these, however I am wondering if you do any with the interior lit and if you have try flashing underneath the car? Just interested to see how that would look.

cheers i am acutally looking at making up a softbox on an telescopic pole, my mate take photos of trucks and he wants me to try this out on a truck so that is where i started to get the idea.

im 6ft and the lancer is standard ride height, add that with the very tall cabin they have its basically the same height as a rav 4. so the roof was a bit of a downfall

the front badge i actually tried to touch up and PS and it looked out of place so i left it, the number plate chops are just quickies for the next aswell i wasnt sure if the owner wanted his plates spread across photography/automotive forums.

i want to get a light that i can change the colour of for different coloured cars, it needs to be on a timer aswell so i can set it to only go on for around 10 seconds. i have put the interior light on for the whole 30 seconds and it blows the light way out compared to the body of the car.

underneath the car isnt something i havnt tried, but i think it would look a bit too much fast and the furious which is definately not the look i am going for.

i cant wait to see the results from you lightpainting shoot, i think you guys will be very suprised at how good they actually look on the camera after each shoot.

tomorrow night ive got another battle on my hands the owner of the xy actually wants a photo of him standing next to the car, ive got an idea how to do it basically im just going to tell him to take a breathe hold it and stay as still as he can for around 10 seconds. ill do it in 2 photos and put them together in photoshop.

craig- another note you should try this with motorbikes, ive seen one photo of a bike done this way and it looked awesome

Maybe shoot the car as normal then get him in and hit him with a flashgun

That means I will have to give mine a reallllly good wash, or get one of my mates to bring their bike around. Sounds like an idea. Thanks Shane

seriously though, thats a good idea one or two good burst from the flash would light each side of him nicely...

I found using a flash on the blind side to light it up seems to work a bit, however having something inside would be much more effective, I am sure we can put our coneheads on and rig up a timer...
